130 Hp Yamah 2 stroke tell tale weak
Submitted by mykel on Sun, 2017-12-31 16:21
I have a 130 Yamaha salt water series 2 stroke and have had all sorts of things done to it at the local Yamaha dealer. for over heating.
It has been good for the past 20 hours, however; now the tell tale is very weak.
I tried flushing it and pushing 140Lb Fishing line down the pipe? (read that on line)
No improvement, I want to go fishing again on Tuesday, No service available until then?
Any ideas.

Just found what was done at Yamaha dealer. Serviced at 770 and replaced Thermostats. Normal service and water pump all good.
790 hours Replaced water pump,
794 hours Descaled Heads
815 hours slow tell tale and overheating alarm coming on. all Up $2,114.95 in 24 hours and still not fixed?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Have a great and Fishy new year

Hey mate dont know the
Hey mate dont know the outboard but it probably has a poppet valve and it could be stuck open with corrosion. You think they would have replaced it. You tube will have a video of how to check it and replace or clean it. If they stick open motor will overheat .I think they regulate the water pressure through the rev range.

It’s a Yamaha
Both my motors Yammie 90 Hp and 5 hp have had this problem.
Both serviced and maintained religiously
Both flushed after every use
Soloution
Pulled off head ( s ) both had scale blockages like you wouldn’t believe . Nothing a Dremel and a sense of humour and a few gaskets couldn’t fix .
No more overheating alarms
Good luck to you

I have to agree with squidvicious1
You have laid out some hard earned dollars and you want your dollars worth. Nothing wrong with that, you got the mechanic to do the job and clearly the job hasn't been done satisfactory as your motor is still overheating.
Simple request, please revisit the job, test run to prove the quality of the repair and you will not accept further charges.

I will try to get them to do
I will try to get them to do something, however; when changing the thermostat did not work they said they would do the Heads for $300. On pick up i got a bill for $800 and was told that was the cost. No negotiation.

Thanks Everyone, I will try
Thanks Everyone, I will try the popet valve once i can get the parts. I puchased an easy guide(from the same dealer) to enable me to retreive the boat on my own. this lasted two retrievals before the rollers split in half. Trying to get some compensation?

Enough said
Give him the flick, a verbal quote is as good as a contract, saying that however it can be a long and stressful road to put things right financially.
These are the sort of things that can take the shine of the pleasures of boating, and they shouldn't happen.
As the Falkner Family have said look for another mechanic, ask your fellow F/W members who they recommend in the area you can access.
Best wishes for the new year and may it be completely hassle free so you can enjoy your leisure time on the water.
