2014 West Kimberley Pig Trip (Warning - Dead Animals)
Was lucky enough to get invited on another 13 day WK pig cull with my mate from Darwin, and 4 other blokes.
Didn't have a quad this trip so I spent it with another quad less fellow walking river banks and waterholes in 42-46 degree heat, went through an unbelievable amount of water and powerade. Middle of the days were spent resting up under shady trees watching the ends of waterholes for incoming pigs.
As a pair we shot 127 pigs (out of a team total of 302), 27 of our walked up pigs were boars between 70kg and 105kg.
As a bonus I also nailed an elusive black cat, thankfully I stopped him from crossing my path.
Anyway, here's a few pics.
Keen to find a goat property now, got 15 weeks of long service to do so. If anyone knows anyone with a goat problem or who'd like to swap some metro fishing trips for a hunting trip then please drop me a PM.
Cheers John

LOVE the hat BJ hahaha. That action shot is cool, do they run at you when they spot you? That would add to the suspense and requirement to be accurate. Sick lookin rifle, looks like fun, have fantasized similar fates of my neighbour's cats, fuggen things
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Great Post mate
What rifle and projectiles you using? There are some big porkers there and good shots.
I too am looking for a goat property, but farmers get $40 a head for them and they get sent overseas to the middle east. Gone are the days when a farmer welcomed a shooter to get rid of goats. But I live in hope of finding a property, one day..... anyone........I am responsible... ex military (armourer).......... oh well
Sincerely
Willy

Slicing
All pigs were sliced open from ribcage to hip, allows the flies to get in early and break down the carcase.

Good going John
Imagine if these ferals took over the bush...hang on they already have
See on the telly the other night scientists up there in the Kimberly were saying that in their opinion feral cats kill 75 million creatures per day across Australia.
So that means war on cats imo.

The property has had two dry wets back to back, with a good wet or two numbers will explode again.

Tough
Cheers guys, pigs are certainly tough animals. The boars up there had really large grinders but their bottom tusks were quite small.
Here's some pics of a pig which had a 3-4 day old bullet wound from a previous encounter with one of the other guys shooting 358 taipans. The old wound channel went through into the back of his throat, breaking off parts of his shoulder as it passed through.
I shot him with my 30/06 (150 grain federal factory loads) while he was quartering away from me flat out through the bush, he gave no indication that he was restricted in anyway from the previous encounter. The photo's show a 30/06 case inside the old wound to give it a bit of perspective, original shot was probably angling a bit far forward, bloke who originally shot it would have been confident of stopping it though.

Great work mate. Would love to do a trip like that. on the list!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

My in laws have Twin Peaks Station in the Murchison and they catch and on sell the goats from there. Make a reasonable quid from it too.
