Had engine start to misfire and spit and fart after about 20 mins today.
Worst of it had to come back from nearly getting to rotto at 5 knots, only on best glass out day of ,year with biggest party of year on rotto and back in driveway chucking a sad. Wo
Luckily i got home but would only run at 5 knots without breaking down. Changed all plugs quckly hoping to get back out and across and beat wind and then engine wouldnt fire at all. Turned over no worries but no ignition.
Anyone have any ideas on what the fix is or problem..

I agree, pretty sure it would be the coil or module in cap if its the HEI distributor. Had a very similar thing happen on my old boat midway to rottnest . In my case I fitted a new distributor in and all good.

Here is some checks you can
Here is some checks you can do make sure you have 12volts to your coil, pull the distributor cap of and crank the engine over and see if the rotor buton turns check the resistance in the coil lead. Also look in the cap and make sure the little contact that sits on the rotor button is not stuck or burnt out. Hope this helps
