When is a tinny no longer a tinny?

I know this may sound like a stupid question but what size does a tinny become a runabout? Or when do they become "open boats"... I've seen some up to 6 mtrs plus that would handle some decent water conditions.
the reason I ask is in some threads some people say certain areas are not suitable for a tinny so it lead me to ask what a tinny is by definition.
My thoughts where in the ball park of 4.2 mtrs and below but I have a quintrex 460 dory and side by side with most runabouts of similar size I would consider it to be quite a capable little vessel ( obviously weather and experience permitting).
im sure there's some old salts on here that could clear this up for some of us newer guys to boating.
cheers.

In general becomes a runabout
In general becomes a runabout when it has a windscreen and forward steering.
Anything open I guess is a Tinny (albeit even a 6m one I guess).
When saying not suitable for a tinny I would hazard they are referring to sub 4.5m

I would go with the 4.2m
And that it was a dinghy.
inhave a 3.8m fwd controls, and even with a windscreen, still be a tinny

I have a 5.3 stacer northern fisher with an 80 hp yammy on the back , the copper that lives down the street likes to come down for a beer when he has seen I have been out , he asked where I had been and told him south west bank , he said "jezz that's a long way in what you have which is basically a big dingy" and I guess he is right but the right weather , right safety gear , it is capable of it and I have been there when the weather has turned nasty on the way home , I just slowed down and took each swell one swell at a time

Tinny=ally and tiller steer.
Tinny=ally and tiller steer. so even a 7.5m with a 250hp with a handle = Tinny (oh and the left arm of a muddy)

dory even though it's a wide
dory even though it's a wide body would classify it as a tinny
but what you can do in one depends on knowing the boats capability and the skippers capability
the boat i've got is only a 5m quinnie and once or twice a year get to Naturalist (only feels small with 8+m boats around and just wishing i had something that size :) ) but thats with enough fuel to go there and back 2x and knowing full well it can take 4hrs to get home if it picks up
my old boss had the same make that was a 4.8 we went their once in he's but when he told his mates they all said he was mad and he never did venture out their again before selling it for a harley (divorce , midlife crisis haha )

I thought anything with a tiller steer and aluminium hull was tinny but it gets confusing when they call the larger ones open boats. I looked on a couple of boat manufacturers websites and they have separate categories for each. Cheers for the info guys.

Pressed ally - tiller steer =
Pressed ally - tiller steer = tinny to me
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
