80 series economy
Submitted by the_dude84 on Tue, 2012-08-28 15:54
I recently bought a 80 series 4.2 diesel with 2' lift and 33' hankook muddies. Just wondering what sort of fuel consumption i will get out of it? And if there is anything i can do to improve it?
Been told about 14-15L per 100k

Improve it.
I had 33's on my Patrol and found that taking them off and going back down to 31.5s improved the mileage by heaps.
The other way is to run in 4th most of the time.

Bloody 80 series of mine a
Bloody 80 series of mine a few weeks ago shat its gas converter and pumped water into the intake... not fatal, but still a good grands worth to fix... the auto shat itself the next day... and being that the cause was the cooler in the radiator, I am now up for another $4400 by the end of the week... but after that itll be a dream to drive again.
My 60 series series TD was great on fuel round town by keeping away from 5th gear, only bout 10-12l per 100, but that was with run of the mill 10Rs

My tired old 75 ute with a na 1HZ and 33s used to get 500ks per tank unloaded (std tank), metro suburb and freway driving. woulda got more economy with a turbo

My 60 series 4.2d running
My 60 series 4.2d running 31's gets about 14l/100 . I would expect slightly worse than that.

As canarvonite said drop the tyre size if you don't need 33's

Ha.. grew up with a cruiser
Ha.. grew up with a cruiser mate.. back in the 'Ford maverick model' days.. as a 6ft 12 yo, dad decided there wasnt enough leg room for me in the back... and got the cruiser...I just cant see it happening.. but I do like em. A mate has just bought a TD Patrol(cant remember the model but its near new) and I love it, another mate had a TD patrol ute that we used to tow his 24ft boat with and he'd friggen drag race p platers from the lights all the time coming home from the ramp.. theyve got shitloads of power, and one day might have a crack at one.. but my cruisers now worth near double to what I paid for it!!! so itll be a while.. although I wanna upgrade my XR8 work ute to a 4WD.. so might have a look around
Ive noticed the LC vs Patrol argument isnt as set in stone as the Ford v Holden.. cause really.. Patrols dont suck like a holden does ;)

Haha, there's a reason why
Haha, there's a reason why the ol cleavos and windsors were painted blue, so they dont scare the fish. The Holdens didnt suck at the creek on the weekend.

I bough the car of my brother
I bough the car of my brother in law... he loved it to death and has poured money into it. Engine had head and timing chain done and he had the gearbox rebuilt anout 3 yrs ago, the list of stuff he did to it goes on and on and on. He said it owes 20k+. I got it for 9k.The 33's are basically new so i won't be changing them. If it is that bad i might have to look at a little 4cly thing to get me around the burbs and keep it for weekends and towing.

Timing chain, u sure its not
Timing chain, u sure its not petrol, in that case it will guzzle the go juice. The ol 1hz will be fine on the juice. The other think I liked about mine when I had it was no speeding fines and kerb hopping/bush routes to bypass traffic lol
