Anchor winch help
Submitted by Riles on Sun, 2016-11-06 13:16
Gday,
I've recently had to replace the terminals on my anchor winch. It the process of doing so I've misplaced (lost) the key (unsure of its proper name) bit which sits between the motor and the shaft. Could someone please help me with what the actual name is and also where I can purchase. Or would I be better off grinding down a stainless bolt to fit, joking not joking

Woodruff key
Is the name. You can buy grab kits of them for F*all, and you will probably never need another one for your entire life. I would suggest somewhere like Hare and Forbes in Belmont Ave.

May be what you want
Got a Quik 1400W anchor winch in pieces and key still in it. You're welcome to it if it's easier to get from me (live in Warnbro) than getting elsewhere but I wouldn't have a clue if it's the size you need.

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

key steel
If you are looking at grinding down a bolt, you can pick up a piece of keysteel, cut it to length and file to suit if you want to do it properly.
Get the width of the gap that it sits in and it should be pretty close to a standard keysteel size. The leftover length will make a good drift for wheel bearings as well (depending on size)
You certainly want a good tight fit as that is the only thing transferring the torque from your motor to the winch gearbox, any slop will wear your key out and potentially 'shock' your gearbox when the slack is taken up.
