And crocodiles may be next
The Premier has flagged taking tougher action to deal with crocodiles, saying the southward movement of the animals from the state's far north called for something to be done.
"I think that will be probably less contentious (than the shark cull policy), but I can see that there's going to have to be measures taken around Broome in controlling the southward drift of crocodile populations," Mr Barnett said.
He did not detail what those measures might be.
Crocodiles have been spotted near Broome, and several beaches remain closed today as authorities try to track a crocodile seen close to shore.
The animal was seen late yesterday swimming south along the Broome Peninsula.
Rangers from the Broome shire, and the Department of Parks and Wildlife, have not seen it again today but have decided to keep Town, Demco and Entrance Point beaches closed.
The department's Dave Woods says people should stay out of the water.
"It's a reasonable size, it's certainly over the 3.5 metre mark and pushing 4 metres in length so it's certainly a crocodile to be wary of," he said.

Warroora
My mate was camped at Warroora when they shot that one a couple of hundred metres off shore several years ago. He had a ring side seat.

They have always been found
They have always been found around Broome and if they move into the swimming areas they were shot or removed to Malcolm Douglas croc farm.,If they stayed in the creeks they were left alone until there was a reason to remove them..... Old stories made new by the media as usual.

Mal's joint
Mal's joint was the source of quite a few lizards that turned up on cable beach and even cable beach club pool after cyclones damaged their fences or gates were left open.
crocs are sneaky buggers that are patient and will learn an animals or humans behaviour. My dog still gets nervous when I ask him 'where's the croc?', a leftover of broome living, catching muddies in the creeks and using Elvis the kelpie as a decoy.

yep they are
they are a serious problem these days, the numbers have exploded , I know for a fact they have been sighted at point Sampson and have heard they been seen at onslow what happens when they make it down to coral bay , I predict there will be a very discrete culling done by the locals at there own cost

Further south
We had had about 4-5 positive sighting of a 2.5 metre croc in the Fascine here in Carnarvon with the last sighting about a week ago. Two blokes fishing at Pelican point channel were only 10-12 metres from it when it poked its nose up for air, sadly not quick enough to get a snap of it, another 2 kitesurfers nearly ran it over in the same area half an hour later.
No doubt its heading back north to warmer waters but who can tell.

Ashburton
Saw one near the Ashburton river mouth about ten years ago, about 2.5 metres, eating a turtle. Wasn't a big creek either, and the tinny we were in was tiny, we did a u turn so it didn't come shooting off the bank into the tinny as we went past.
