Just got back now. Yep, wind
Just got back now. Yep, wind wind wind so a lot of people didn't get out with very few fishing the Saturday. Most people that did fish took a battering but a few boats got into some decent fish. Most prizes were claimed except for the queenie and coral trout prizes which went into a lucky dip. Gully ended up winning the cod prize and got his own poster (but then chose to give the prize to the next biggest, I think it was Simo's). Matts boat ended up getting the most marlin (and only marlin) at 2 (and hence the biggest marlin). SamC ended up hooking a small queenie and released it without a photo thinking it wasn't big enough to bother only to find out it was the only queenie caught. When it went lucky dip on the unclaimed queenie prize Adam was saying Sam would have to win it and what do you know, Sam's name came out so he won the best queenie prize anyways. Best photo wents to a picture of Cal's unconventional balloon used to catch a shark that took the biggest landbased fish. The ballon was cylindrical, and came rolled up in a foil packet. Usually something used to avoid catching things, haha.
I'm sure Adam or someone should give the full list of prize winners and other info.

mmm
yes it was a shame thats for sure... sunday was a looooooooooong day trolling in a building easterly that swung around north as it got later instead of dropping off like the weather man forecast.... bottom bashing not far off pointless... our grand total went 1 nice landbased golden some nice landbased queenies ( hlokk i cant believe i read no queenies got measured haha :( im a idiot ) , one thumper spango and i copped a 7/0 straight in the heel! didnt fit on the brag mat so another missed oppotunity. still a good trip away and hope everyone has a safe trip back!

Plans
Depends on your plans BUT when the easterly starts cranking and then swings to the north east there's not a lot of places to fish.
Sure you can shore bash in a lee somewhere but when you've been dreaming/planning a trip for 12 months, crap weather can be very frustrating.

Exy comp
Yeah the weather was pretty horrible thats for sure but was still fishable. Saturday we didnt even bother heading out - drove to the ramp and had a couple of beers before heading home.
Sunday we did the early mission and the easterly was in but not too bad so we made the call to troll south from Tantabiddi. We decided to try our luck and go searching for new ground. Big decision on comp day but we figured if we looked hard enough then we would find something.
It was good though as the further south we went the better the weather got and finally late in the day we scored some great ground and ended up finally putting a few comp fish on the mat - we even ended up winning a few prizes. However being so far south made sure we got well and truly belted on the trip home as the northerly was in the further north we went.
Overall a challenging couple of days for people in the comp but thats what makes it good I think. Makes people work hard for fish and everyone is in the same boat so to speak. Who knows next year the weather might actually play the game and then who knows what the catches will be like.
Bring on next year I say

I just got back from Exmouth
I just got back from Exmouth this morning and the wind this year was really bad, of the week we had on the water, there was only one day didn't beat us up. It was howling and on the first day less then 1/2 a doz of the 21 boat that went up launched. Turns out that no one caught any keepers on Sat. Sunday saw a few fish and I am sure you will see some reports and pics soon.
The whale sharks were great though and got in a swim with them till the bronzies that followed them started take bites at our fins.
Was beginning to think that Marlins were a myth up in Exmouth - till the last day there.
We decided to launch everyday regardless of the wind and waves and I really learnt a lot about fshing in those conditions and trolling for bill fish. Skipper Pete D did a fantastic job.
BIG BIG THANKS to Reane, Adam, Ewan and Gully for putting on the super feed on Monday night after the prize giving.
