Any plasterers here?

hey fellas,

I've bricked in a small window in our bedroom and I now need to plaster it followed by applying a white skim coat.

Can anyone recommend a good render and skim coat product to use?

Was just going to use the cockburn dark plaster for the plaster though not sure for the skim coat...

cheers

Wayne

thanks for the reply.  The area is only 1m2 so I'm hoping I can save some $$$ and do it myself.  Worst case scenerio is we'll hang a picture over it;)

I guess this would be very similar to an aircon brick up.

So just to confirm are you putting the following on?

- plaster cement mix

- 2 coats of sheetrock easysand 20

- followed by one coat of skim top coat?

yeah thats correct just rember the float coat is supposed to be quite weak follow the mix on the bag so not too much cement  and wet your bricks before pushing it on it helps with the suction once its pushed on leave it for 20mins then rule it off 3 mm below the existing white set then you can use the easysand within 30mins first coat will pull a bit of sand in but dont stress your not aiming to get it set in the first coat allow it to set prob 20mins then scrape back any high trowl marks the apply another coat of easy sand  again let it set and scape back high spots the your ready for top coat i use  SHEETROCK® Brand Lightweight All-Purpose Joint Compound with Dust Control rember to go wide on the last coat then sand next day seal and paint

go see larry at sheetrock for some gear

tell him rob sent you
