What parts are you chasing? I found that getting them shipped from the east a little more reliable and cheaper. There is some guy out in belmont, but they're pretty hopeless.

Hmm sounds like someone is yanking your chain or can't be arsed chasing the part up. Chuck up a pic & explain the problem, some mechanically minded dudes (not me) on here that could point you in the right direction. Apart from what you have posted above any further info on ya donk?

The cog looking thing,

Tue, 2011-01-11 10:59

The cog looking thing, everything runs fine its just for some unknown reason one of the teeth has snapped so  its a tad louder when you start the motor as its skipping that tooth. Just has something to do with starting the motor that cog. Ive gotten Leah to turn the key and i saw the snapped tooth.

Cogs are for clocks, gears

Tue, 2011-01-11 11:30

Cogs are for clocks, gears are for motors. I could tell you that you need a new "flux capacitor". That'd be funny, could you imagine the coversation with the Merc dealer?

Tue, 2011-01-11 11:42

hence the 2% of mechanical brains i have is about as much as knowing spark plugs hahaha.  So whole new starter motor just for that? Because when i took the cover off the fly wheel its just held on with a bolt, not as easy as unbolting and putting a new one one? Looks pretty straight foward( but thats from me, clock boy)

try foothills marine. we have

Tue, 2011-01-11 13:09

try foothills marine. we have the exact same motor as you and took it there for a service after we bought the boat second hand last year. and when we picked it up we were amazed to hear that the water pumped was screwed and the gear box was pretty much welded on. the guy said they did a hundred point check and also fixed up the brakes as one was dragging and greased it all up too.

he is aparrently the best with mercury motors in perth and reasonbly priced too.

got reccomended to us by a guy at dads work and weve been recomending him to everyone since he saved us from sitting 30kms offshore with a melted motor.

Starter motor

Tue, 2011-01-11 23:13

If you get a new starter motor I can come around and help fit it.... If you get a new gear for it I can also help to fit it but may take longer as I will have to take it to work and get it fitted to the existing starter motor depending if it needs a press.

PM me if you need help as I am in the area.

Ended up picking the part up today from Noel in Rockingham $72. Only problem is when i try and take the bolt off the whole mechanism spins. Im guessing i need a powerful ratchet to override the spinning? Anyone know how to help?
