The Ashes 2010

Not sure if someone else has started a thread on this or not.. I has a quick look and found nothing.

Turning into an interesting test though, looking like its going to be a draw unfortunaley even though the Aussies would have been confident going into today... batting on a road up there at the moment. Marcus North is the only one who has looked like taking a wicket (just got strause). He'll need more than that to keep his spot I think.

Mon, 2010-12-06 15:46

Sounds like Katich might miss at least the next test too.  They are talking about bringing in Jaques if he does miss?  They might have to keep North if he scores in this innings.  They definately need him to score or at least hang about for a few hours.

Check out the forecast for tomorrow in Adelaide.

Venom outta the rough

Mon, 2010-12-06 17:53

Pietersen got a ball to spit out of the rough outside off, Clarke went to play it covering offstump line, somehow managed to get the full face on it while closing the face it bounced off his thighpad and cook took a hell of a catch at bat pad. Bad luck and a reflection of why you need to make runs in the first innings, not the second.

Pitches have been flat as buggery when Australia has bowled except in Brisbane.....attack doesn't have enough spice or venom to break through on flat wickets....only way you are going to get that is a proficient spinner or reverse.

Maybe Doherty needs to go

Mon, 2010-12-06 17:58

Maybe Doherty needs to go then, he wasnt doing much with it today. I mean, if pieterson can utilize the pitch better than our "front line" spinner we are really struggling.

umpiring. Until you've stood out there for 90 overs, for 5 days straight, with the close scrutiny of TV replays, media and the ICC it's hard to critisize. I don't think i'd like to do it.

Rudi Keurtzen is horrendous.. one bad decision usually snowballs for into a bad 5 days for him. The umpiring has been pretty good I think, the only howlers being Harris's dismissal in the 1st innings and a definite boundary today for clarke not being called, both went to the 3rd umpire with the aid of a replay. dont know what footage he was looking at.

I've really lost faith

Thu, 2010-12-16 20:54

with our current selection panel.

Going in with 4 pace bowlers plus Watson and no spinner? Come on.

The selection/non selection of Beer as a 'local' spinner was a load of crap. For a start he's not local. He came over from victoria last year coz he couldn't get a game. Now he's played 5 state games on the WACA. Still can't workout who Hauritz pissed off???

Picking Hughes is going to prove to be a rediculous move. They should have left him in domestic cricket untill he developed some sort of technique. Though i must admit there arn't many domestic openers racking up runs at the moment. Marsh/ Kahwaja look the next best options.

The North/Smith situation is another ballsup, yes North has been in poor form but Smith had hardly done enough to force his way into the side. IMO the option was to either give North 1 more crack on his home ground (with the added spin he provides) or bring in a form middle order bat

with an eye on the future and that would have to be Ferguson.

I think we as Aussie supporters are going to have a tough time of it for the next 5yrs while the whole Aus cricket scene trys to sort out where it's heading.

Bang on, I always thought the openers were the ones with exception techniques that could get past the new ball, eg shane watson.

i agree they should bring ferguson in, and spinner wise, either hauritz or o'keefe

Sometimes being a Pom has it's moments.

Ponting is surely gone, as the selectors should. Fancy not playing a spinner at the G.

That batting display was woeful apart from Watson's wicket ( wicked ball ) they threw them away, LoL at Phillip Hughes, WTF was he thinking.

Well I reckon the Ashes are lost, credit to the pommy bastards!!!

Time to plan ahead Cricket Aust and blood some youngsters for the Sydney test.

Here's my opinion on the Sydney team (if we lose this test, & if SCG is a turner)

Watson, Marsh, Ponting, Hussey, Khawaja, Paine (if fit?) , Smith, Johnson, O'Keefe, Harris, Siddle....Copeland 12th man

That was a joke!

You cant have sessions like that four tests in a row and expect to win back the ashes. The aussie side has the mental strength of a four year old at the moment.. brain snaps every few overs. Ponting has to stay I think, he is the only one who can lead that side. No one else has to many leadership qualities in my opinion. Such a shame, was pretty pumped to watch this over the next few days.

If Ponting was not the captain

he certainly would not be playing in this test, everyone has their ups and downs, but he is at the end of line I feel. Im wondering if he will hand over the reins voluntarily and concentrate more on his batting, it may be his only chance of survival. The effort today was lamentable, by everyone, certainly not at the level it should be at, and the fact that the poms have made 150 odd without dropping a wicket only reinforces that.

I'm also wondering if what has happened to Jacques? , he showed some real promise in his first few digs. Also the selectors obvious dislike of Hodge may bite them on their ass if it hasn't already.

Ponting should go down the order, he doesnt have the reflexes to face the new ball anymore. His normally in when the ball is only 2 overs old, maybe a move down the order might find him some form.

were pretty much screwed but lets hope/pray we can bat for 2 days and score 600 to give the poms a sneaky little chase.

Could be dreaming.....

i remember that feeling

being a pom and losing so convincingly at the hands of the aussie's , it's about bloody time we lifted our game (and aussie dropped theirs)
