The Ashes 2010

Not sure if someone else has started a thread on this or not.. I has a quick look and found nothing.

Turning into an interesting test though, looking like its going to be a draw unfortunaley even though the Aussies would have been confident going into today... batting on a road up there at the moment. Marcus North is the only one who has looked like taking a wicket (just got strause). He'll need more than that to keep his spot I think.

Yeh

Sun, 2010-11-28 12:56

Could be interesting if the poms declare mid morning with a 250 lead and give the aussies some hope of chasing it, turn it into a one dayer where the aussies could go for it and loose, or take the risk of big hitting and win.  That would be a great way to end it, but its rather unlikely.

Yeh would be great to see but its unlikely as you said. I think the poms would be pretty happy to come out of this with a draw, the Gabba aint a happy haunting ground for tourists. Cant blame whats happening to much on the aussies though, pitch is doing nothing.

I would rather a pitch that gets 40 wickets in 3-4 days than 1500 runs in 5. Its a shame, because the Gabba test is normally a corker.

If i were the poms id declare and try give the aussies a scare, wouldnt suprise me if we lost a few wickets if we got put in. Or they might just bat all day and get 1/800 and really piss the aussies off.

It's gonna be a real sad series if every test is that boring.  Someone needs to liven things up a bit???

The GABBA

Tue, 2010-11-30 17:07

wasn't that flat, had a few cracks on a length, turned and was tough facing the new ball. We were very lucky that a few umpiring decisions went our way, Hussey was plumb in the 80'swhen Anderson was bowling like a demon. You can never expect to win Tests when you drop 3/4/5 catches and lack a true strike bowler.

Realistically we should be stoked we got out of that with a draw and should hope that our openers or punter get bulk runs in Adelaide, and drop Clarke (he's obviously unfit). Also drop Johnson and bring in Bollinger and or Harris. At the moment i don't see the need for a specialist spinner when the best we have isn't dangerous, North and Katich can do that job, JMOCool

Good first innings bowling effort by us, but a very very dismal 2nd innings. 1 wicket, very dissapointing.

I reckon north will play next text and make 100+ or take a few. He has an uncanny knack of peforming when he is under huge pressure from the media and selectors.

Johnson bowled crap, he is living on reputation at the moment. How can he take a 5 for and make 121 at state a week before, then just do nothing?

IMO Doherty was bowling to fast, needs to slow it down a little.

Finally, not to sure about hilfy being supposedly dropped, he was one of our only decent bowlers. Only one in the squad that can swing it most balls he bowls.

I agree Matt, the poms don't seem to like the swing. But I reckon they'll go for Dougie - given he was 'the best' domestic paceman over the past 12 months. He did take 5 wickets at Adelaide this time last year too (against the windies)

If North does nothing i'm thinking he's gone. Khawaja and Ferguson havn't set the world on fire over the last week or 2, not sure who they'd bring in.

IMO If Norths goes out Smith comes in, khawaja would replace a batsman, not a part time all rounder.

Interesting

Thu, 2010-12-02 16:55

you say that. Who said North is a Part-time all rounder??? North is in the side as a specialist bat at no.6, not as a all-rounder. In reality Watson is the all-rounder. That's why they picked Doherty as a spinner. Smiths still pretty raw and the poms would belt him, though i do rate him as a bat. So Hauritz is the other spinning option, unfortunatlyUndecided Stuff all that and play 4 quicks, haha

As far as the middle order goes Ferguson made 101* yesterday in a one dayer just to complicate things further. Marsh made 80odd the other day and Khawaja made 50odd in the same game too so at least there putting the pressure on the selectors. I'd dare say if North fails in Adelaide they will have to bring one of these young blokes in.

BTW, glad they dropped Johnson. No need to carry a sulking bowler who has no idea where it's goin. He's got a hell of alot of work to do to get back to where he was.

If Australia can hold off today without losing anymore wickets, they have a fighting chance of a draw, given that the rain is coming in.

If its a draw, would be classified as a win by the aussies, no different to England at the Gabba

Clarke is a pretty boy muppet who does not carry any of the required characteristics of an Australian Test captain.

Give it to Hussey or Katich for a few years until Haddin has a bit more experience, and hand it over to him for the naxt 10 - 12 years.

Job done!

Brad Hodge will be dominating sheffield shield till he's 50.. an absolute star. He should have been in test team for the last 5 yrs at least. Not to mention he pretty much got dropped on the back of a double century. I have heard that Ponting didnt like him, I hope thats not the case.

that nobody liked kevin peterson before the series. if that was the reason brad hodge is not playing ponting should be dropped

The rains are here!! I tell you what, if the aussies get away with a draw the poms will feel pretty deflated. Maybe its just the bit of luck we need.

I've heard in from a few people down here in Victoria Scottland, still not sure how accurate it is. There is no way Brad Hodge would not get picked on form.

haha, shit! Thanks Matt, so he did. I think he's been playing pretty well in the one dayers from memory. I was listening to a radio programm not long ago that said the worst thing to happen to Hodges test career happened 14 days before he was born in Tasmania... Ricky Pointing was born. More so about batting position than personal relationships i think.

only God can save the Aussies now or a dam good African Rain Dance Sungorma!!!! Wind and light drizzle so far, but could just bring out a bit of bounce on that wicket and work against us.

Oh how we the mighty have fallen, and to an average~good, but focused British team, they not a Great Team the POMs by far, but they got the game plan, the focus and the tatics now down to a well drilled machine! :-(

is a protected species. Don't expect to see him out of the side anytime soon, barring injury.
