a senator is a good start out balloon reel at the right price or go the international 80 for some huge line capacity ;) but better work on the guns though.

billstar what dates in Sept
billstar what dates in Sept will you be there? Heading there myself in Sept and happy to share my lack of wisdom. As Rig said line capacity is the key when looking for a balooning reel - at least 500m I reckon. Rod needs to have a bit of grunt.

It's a bit like how long is a pice of string....
Perhaps this will cover the tight ass, have kids and mortgage end of spectrum.
Penn 850 or even 950 ssm for $90 and a Penn spinfisher rod 950 at $50 . $40 for 500m of 30lb Pre Test and your ready to go.
So for $200 you can scratch the reel and rod all trip long, and never wet a line again, and no one gets upset at your spend.
BCF has some crazy rod specials at present, and very cheap (but thick) Penn line too. I would only get the pre test, just my preference.
To work out a combo you need to state an all up price you can spend, not just wish you can spend. Then folks can dial in details to suite. Remember to take up what line you don't wind on the reel as you may well need to top reel up part way through trip.
One more important point, any rod - cheap or other wise - is just a heap of shit if it does not have the runners bound on so when the rod bends under load the rod wants ot stay bent in a direction where the runners point down for spinner reels (runners point up for overheads) .
If the rod under load wants to twist so the runners are at 45deg to pointing down, then the rod will shit you to tears when reeling in any type of weight.
it only takes a little load, or bend pressure, to tell if the rod wants to twist and have the runners at an angle to where they should point. Be fussy, it's quick, easy to try, and costs the same for a good rod as it does a shit rod. PLENTY of rods will fail the test, dont get a stuffed one even for $30.
