I got in contact with my guys at the west and they ran this story for him.
Stay tuned :)

Basically he was fishing
Basically he was fishing from the high point next to the fault line, had camera set up and wave comes over, very crazy.I have never seen a wave come over that spot. He got out the way just in time. Must be 50 foot high there

Devils Advocate
Isn't watching the water the most important facet of rock fishing? I know that's what my dad taught me when I started fishing quobba with him as a 13 year old.
I can't really see how this is a big news story, mind you, I wouldn't call Today Tonight a credible news program either.
From the footage above, it looks like a similar or bigger greeny is rolling in when the filming ends. Hardly a freak wave.
The only thing I can see coming from something like this is giving the powers that be in our nanny state more ammunition to lock things/places up for our 'own safety'.
What am I missing here?

Been going to Steep Pt since
Been going to Steep Pt since mid 80's and whilst I have seen some huge rollers come through I have never seen a wave sneak over that spot. Worst thing is the missus was watching the news last night! The tag of Aust most dangerous sport does not sit well however many of the poor souls who have paid the ultimate price may have been inexperienced or simply didn't follow the basic rules of rock fishing. Having said that perhaps I'll invest in a self inflating jacket for my Sept trip to Steep to mitigate the risk (of the missus getting pissed off).

So true , this is why this
So true , this is why this video is a rare capture and had made me more aware of when i sit on that corner. I had similer thing with my missus. She was freaked out when i went to quobba. Weeke leading up to it she heard everyone saying how dangerous it was and i even had a mate tell her that he dragged a poor fishermans body out from there. She stressed the whole week. Not that i was away fishing but because i may never come home especially for how danger, crazy things happen to me.
I told her how safe steep point was and that chances of getting washed in there were nill..... until this vid lol. I cant wait to get Lisa up there to see that its just a freak wave and most the time its safe. Just goes to show never turn your back on the ocean
