Bar Crusher Gen 2 - Performance at Rest?
Submitted by Mick C on Thu, 2015-01-08 21:08
Members,
I was wondering if anyone had feedback on the Bar Crusher Gen 2 hull design. My Hornet is very stable at rest and does not roll, but of course does not perform on the plane in moderate to heavy conditions. I note the Bar Crusher Gen 2 promotional material has stated an improvement in stability at rest but am seeking feedback on this. Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Mick

ballast door
The only thing that is different is the ability to trap and release water in the flooding area of the hull ( forgotten name ), other than that still same hull.

Gen 2 - Performance
I cannot comment on the Gen 2 status as the 780 HT doesn't have the same mods. Its applicable to the hull configuration not the flooding of the hull and I thought it was a handling upgrade not specifically an at rest improvement.

sales pitch
Mick,
from the 730HT upwards have stuck with the original design flooded keel, but the smaller boats have manipulated in aft end of it a bit. The sales lads when i got my boat said they seen it more as a sale's pitch as compared to a performance upgrade. Apparently its means to give you more lift on the plane.

Mick, its hard to get a boat
Mick, its hard to get a boat that rides well (deep V) but is also stable. Some designs add big reverse Chines, but this makes them slap more.
48 ft Maritimo seems to do both OK though........

hi mate, I've got a 2015
hi mate,
I've got a 2015 built bar crusher 615 (gen2) and its a lovely boat (for my purposes). Its a good balance between, stability at rest and ride comfort. They are light to tow, super easy to clean (big tick for me) and also very economical. I average 1.8-1.9km/L @25kn(Yamaha 150hp 4st).
I find it quite stable, especially for a 2.25m beam boat! Comes onto plane very fast too.
I love my boat, as it suits my needs.. but everyone has different needs, so depends on what you want out of a boat.
Hope this helps, cheers.

G'day Mick.
If you want to get a feel for how this style boat handles you're more than welcome to hop on mine (5.5 Surtees) for a whiting sesh.... or snapper bash when the ban lifts. Same hull as Barcrusher so you'll get a good idea how it goes compared to the Hornet.
