Gday. I had my best sucess

Mon, 2009-04-06 21:20

Gday. I had my best sucess on smaller lures like Manns stretch 10,s however caught alot on Classic barra 120s, killalure flats rats, halco scorpions, ect. I think it depends alot on what type of water you are fishing. Big river, small river, depth, size of bait in that system. Its no good fishing a 20 ft diver in 5 ft of water, if you know what I mean. Would definately take some soft plastics for land based, things like Squidge slick rigs or the storm ones.(sorry forget name) yeh the pre rigged ones. As for colours would take some neutral natural colours greys, light blue, chrome, brown tiger for the cleaner water and fluros or lures with alot of contrast for any discoloured water. If you can get some with loud rattles and some non rattling. Hope this helps..

Yep like Barney says match

Yep like Barney says match the lure depth to water depth, colour/contrast and don't forget the Nilsmater Spearheads when casting around on the low (got shown just how effective these are earlier this season) and also some poppers for a little nocturnal action. But don't get caught trawling for Bazzas tho mate, trolling however is perfectly acceptable =D

I know you wanna throw lures but depending on your location livies may be better so get a throw net and catch some mullet.

don't underestimate croc's......a few us us crew used to live north and be very careful mate. cant emphasis that enough.

good luck

where you heading?

Yeh mate, my best friend

Tue, 2009-04-07 13:17

Yeh mate, my best friend whilst fishing land based in the NT was a gidgee, a shotty and an aboriginal named croc food. haha. Nah only joking except for the gidgee. Keep your eyes out though. It might only happen once. Ive been chased by a few on the mud flats man and they can move fast. Even had one chase my popper whilst standing knee deep on a sand bar. I kept winding and it kept coming. Ended up free spooling and running like hell back to the dry stuff. Wound my popper back up and kept running for the 4bi. My land based tip. They arent that good on rocks and will rarely crawl up on them. They get cut up to much on their stomach. Have fun..

plenty of sand ........

any river system along the gibb river (being well upstream) will hold fish but rememeber as the dry season extends the water temperature decreases and "shut" the barra down as they are less agressive in cold water as opposed to more aggressive in warm water. still catch fish but better option is probably live bait. Also around August the oxygen depletes from the water and kills barra.

regardless still wild country/amazing experience and good luck
