Anyone been to Belvoir Amphitheatre for a show before?
What's the go with the 'seating' there, is it first in best dressed? Any tips on where best to sit?

One of the best acoustical
One of the best acoustical arena's WA has, no seats as such Ben it's grassed stepped areas.
Get in early and find the mid height area's good view & sound

It is first in best dressed
And has sadly become a money driven venue. Around 5 years ago it used to be way cheaper gigs, and the seating capacity was far less. It used to be picnic blanket and chairs byo food, no glass etc. Then they changed it, applied for a larger licence, no picnic blankets, no chairs, no byo food and the last gig I ever went to there we ended up on the wrong side of the little mound that tops the ampitheatre and unable to see the band at all.
We and about 75-100 others all walked out and demanded refunds and received them about a week later.
It was pricey gourmet food with big queues.
I have never been back. Probably would still be a good gig, I also lived in Willetton at the time and the problem is traffic getting up there for a gig to get in super early now. I guess it tastes bitter after how sweet it was before. Best seats are on the terraces in front, preferably just to one side of the sound desk, that would technically give the best acoustics, but if you are up for dancing or just like to be up front the grass section in the middle up the front. The stage in the ampitheatre is only a few feet high so it can lead to some intimate personal type gigs where you feel like the band is so close you could touch them. If its a festival style gig, it will be up in the paddock in a marquee not in the ampitheatre and they are generic gigs in a paddock.
In the years before that I would have been to more than 40 gigs there and was definately perths best outdoor venue. List of artists seen : The Fauves, Beaverloop and Tism, circa 1997, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, Jeff Martin and the Tea Party, Afro Celt Sound System, Crowded house circa 93, John Butler, The Waifs, heaps more that I cant remember at the moment.
Who are you going to see?

Awsome venue! Been to a few
Awsome venue! Been to a few music festivals there! From my experience you can see and hear the live music from pretty much anywhere in the actual amphitheater, but as soon as you get to the top or anywhere past that the music and views disapear. Id definently go again for a music festival. What is it exactly that you are going there for?

I prefer to be in the top
I prefer to be in the top half or as far away from sweaty gurners with no shirts on. In summer at the bottom it gets dusty, muggy and is a horrible cesspit.

Belvoir
I love going to gigs out there.Large grassed steps so even when its a sell out ive always found plenty of room to move.
Ive been in various positions in the amphitheatre and would say 3 of 4 rows up from the bottom is the premium as you are close to the band and have the best view.

Okay thanks lads. I'm
Okay thanks lads. I'm looking at heading there on Tues night to see Portishead. Will take a few tips from here and get there v.early, head a few rows up from the stage and get comfy. I'm surprised you can't take picnic rugs though, what are you meant to sit on? I'll give them a buzz.
sarcasm0 - some pretty good music in that lineup. I remember some good sessions rocking out to Beaverloop back in the day, they were pretty rad. The Tea Party would have been awesome, The Edges of Twilight is still one of my favourite albums.

Lol, that's the one thing
Lol, that's the one thing holding me back from getting tickets. There were some cool tracks on it (Machinie Gun, We Carry On) but yeah there were some messy ones there too.
The setlist from the Roskilde Festival earlier this year had a good mix of music - Mysterons, The Rip, Glory Box (I'm sure they can't get out of that one wherever they go), Roads and finished with a bit of noise in We Carry On.

Its not so much the rug
Its if everyone maps out a 2x3 mt rug they cant squish in as many. Read the terms on your ticket or call the venue for more info I guess.
Im probably a harsh judge of Belvoir as I said because to me it was so good before. Good memories of awesome gigs and afterwards meeting some of my favorite musicians. Absolute highlights being Jeff Martin and the Tea Party and Josh Cunningham from the Waifs. Josh had not seen some family for nearly two years who had come for the gig and obviously didnt have much time. I just told him how he was my absolute favorite acoustic guitarist and that he totally changed my aspect of trying to play guitar. Got his signature and the rest of the waifs on a tshirt and ended out talking to him for a good 10 mins. Still cant believe how good and clean his playing is, every time I hear a waifs song I hang out for the lead riffs and Josh always makes me smile.
Jeff Martin and the Tea Party were absolute weapons as a three piece. I cannot believe how much of an influence they had on my music tastes. I think Jeff alone plays more than 30 instruments. One of my school mates played tabla for him on several tours.
All this music is on high rotation on my playlist.

The only one on the lineup
The only one on the lineup worth a look is Yoda. Krafty Kuts is zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Sounds exactly the same as his sets 5-10 years ago.Whats with all the dnb artists on the lineup?
Personally I think this years Origin 2 day festival is gonna be better.
