Outboard Motor Wreckers
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Sat, 2012-10-13 18:13
I am chasing either a gearbox housing or a recond gearbox for my 90hp Mercury two stroke outboard approx 1990 model. Does anybody know if Ace Outboard Motor Wreckers are still operating, I have rung their telephone number several times and received no reply.
The top end of the motor is in very good condtion, just a crack in the gearbox housing causing me some grief. Failing that I will have to purchase a new Yamaha 70hp four stroke for around $12,500, so I would prefer to spend the $700 if possible.
Cheers

If you cant find one in Wa,
If you cant find one in Wa, try ebay, it sounds dodgy but i had to do it and ended up finding a gearbox in queensland and its on my boat now running sweet. worth a try, worked for me and i ended up paying a lot less too.

Yes Ebay can be very usefull
Yes Ebay can be very usefull for this.
I do restore old outboards and have done the same, with succes, in completing a resto on old outboards.
Sometimes Gumtree can be a source as well, just need a bit of patience and search the whole of Aus instead of just Perth
Good luck
P.S. depending where the crack is (not where there are seals etc.) you can weld the crack up
