Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a GPS from the boat show. No more than $750. Have been looking at Lowrance and Garmin - any recommendations?
cheers

I ended up gettin a raymarine
I ended up gettin a raymarine a50d (combo unit) for my tinny, came with silver charts (ok for inshore) and better tranny, (50/200) and has higher resolution screen than lowrance. I preferred the wider screen over the taller lowrance screens too and is easy to use, should get one for 700 now
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Thanks fellas. I'm only
Thanks fellas. I'm only after the GPS as I already have a fish finder.
These are the ones I've narrowed it down to;
Raymarine A50
Garmin GPSMAP 551 Plotter
Lowrance HDS-5m Colour High Definition GPS Chartplotter (abit out of my price range)
Lowrance Elite-5m Colour GPS Chartplotter
If anyone has further recommendations I would like to hear them:)
Also, is there any particular mapping software/chip you would recommend?
cheers

Got the 551
Off Ebay for 500, picked up G2 (Esperance to MacKay) for 80.
Does the job!
The only problem I haven't worked out is using Garmin Homeport on my PC to plot trips and points of interest onto the G2 card and these aren't reading on the unit.
