The best fishing experience of my life!
hey all,
On friday a few mates and i headed a couple of hours north of perth to chase some taylor and mulloway. We arrived at our camp site around 4:30 and we had everything set up in about an hour.So with a little bit of daylight left we thought we'd set out to find some good holes to fish the next morning. We walked for about 20 minutes and reached the point to find on the other side was a beach that was perfect for taylor and mullas and decided this was going to our spot for the morning.so we headed back to camp to rig up the rods, have a few coldies and call it a night.
The next day we were all up for 5:30 and we had the lines in the water by about 6:15, only to find out that a ton of weed had been blown in over night. We kept fishing for and hour or so before we packed it in and decided to head back over the point and fish the beach next to camp and try for a few sharks.
After a quick bite to eat it was time to send the ballons out.So i've chucked on a whole mullet about 40cm long and cast it out 30m or so, backed the drag rite off and put the rod in the holder to do its thing.I was still setting up all my other rods and i had to run back over to camp to grab my tacklebox to find that when i got back to my rod it was bent over and taking line like i've never seen before in my life.So i've picked up my rod,set the hooks, tightened the drag up and held on.After 15 minutes of fighting and 2 big jumps out of the water i dragged a massive sambo around 23kg up onto the beach and i was speachless.i took a few photos cut the leader and spent the next 20mins trying to release the fish but it swallowed the hooks to far down and made a mess of its self .I didnt want to waste the fish so we cooked it up on a fire on the beach and it fed most of the camp site so that was a plus.It wasnt no dhuey but it was better than eating samon.we fished the rest of the day and i ended up with two more both around 16-17kg.One of them was caught on 30lb and gave me a fight of a life time.Im still blown away by this experience and i hope its not to long before i get to do something like this again. It sure does make up for the last 3 months of fishing through this shitty weather and only catching string rays.
cheers guys.
