Boat and trailer Rego

Hey All,

I have just purchased a un licenced dinghy and trailer (cheap) and was wondering if anyone on here has ever had to re register a boat and what is required to get it on the water and if anyone has had to take a trailer over the pits and what they look for?

I know with the trailer that i need to put on a few reflectors on the front, side and back, replace the chains with stamped approved chains and also install a number plate light. Other then that all the lights work and bearings seem to be in good condition. Is there anything else that might catch me out???

With the dinghy, Where do you take them to get inspected? There is a couple of cracked welds and the rear seat has copped a bit of damage. Are these the sort of things that will fail? Also gotta install lights. Is the anything else on the boat i will need?

Any info would be appreciated lads cheers.

Coin

Looks like a great buy for the coin you outlaid ringy.

Check that trailer link the supervisor put up in Jim1's trailer post. I've just built one according to those regs.

You don't need to have nav lights to register a tinny either, but you are then breaking the law if you use it at night.

Ps. Looks heavy on the drawbar. LOL

You need the usual things like lights, chains, guards etc on the trailer but the only thing on the boat is a HIN number if one isn't already fitted to the hull.

All the safety gear you must have depends on where you wish to use it with the exception of life jackets which you must have for each person on board and anchor and rope.. If you want to use it at night then if I remember correctly for a vessel under 5 metres is an all round white light.. For off shore, a radio, bailer and flare kit will be needed.

Yeah big john, ended up only

Yeah big john, ended up only costing me $500 for the boat and trailer (plus $150 fuel to pick it up) so was pretty stoked with it!

Do ya need to get the boat inspected or do ya just ring em up and pay the coin over the phone? The HIN number is on it still.

Rego

Not 100% sure, but if you have the old rego papers all you need is to present them and fill out your details on the transfer form complete with the previous owners signature.

No paper work came with the tinny.... I purchased it knowing that this was the the case and knowing its going to probably be a pain in the arse to get sorted out!

I think you can get a "stat dec" off the DPI website. Transfer of ownership Stat Dec. I think.

your right

Rang up the DPI today and all you have to do is download a stat dec document and fill out the baot details and the details of the person you brought it off and send it off. No boat inspection needed, just need to pay 19 bucks transfer fees and $75 for the rego for a year and your right to get on the water.

easy as hey! i just picked up another tinny a few weeks back, if its not lic or no hin make sure you get a good receipt, better than stat dec because some people charge you to sign then!  i used hayway marine a few times, $55 a pop for hin numbers. i look for the unlic boats as there usually worth half a lic one any people dont know how easy they are to get regoed.
