VHF radio

Spend some money on a good investment if you are going to travel north regularly
Buy a VHF radio because most of the sea rescue groups up this way don't or shortly won't monitor 27meg. We, Carnarvon Sea Rescue are not going to replace our 27 meg set when it dies because no one uses that band range. I haven't heard of anyone getting pinged for using a VHF without a marine radio ops licence and in an emergency it may save your life.

There is now an operational VHF repeater on Steep Point [channel 22] that will allow you to log into Shark Bay sea rescue in Denham even if you are in the lee of Dirk Hartog island.

thanks for that.  i do have a handheld vhf but the range is limited.  last year as we were heading back, denham recieved our signal from shelter bat, that would explain the repeater!

Just out of curiosity are there any repeaters Gnaraloo, Waroora way? When we were up there we were battling to get anyone on the radio VHF and 27meg.

There is a repeater on Warroora station, channel 82 and another on Ningaloo station on channel 80

We are in the throws of trying to get one on Cape Cuvier but it may present a few problems trying to reach it from here in Carnarvon but the second spot on the list is Cape Ronsard on the northern end of Bernier island, giving coverage down the west side of the islands but still leaving a black hole northwards of Cuvier.

Blackies is the small

Mon, 2013-05-27 20:19

Blackies is the small beach/bay east of shelter bay but west of the rangers bay cove.

We are in a 6m Redline and a 7.4m Gemini RIB.

Call sign for SBSR , well haven't really set one in motion until we get up there mate.

no doubt we will touch base at some point, hopefully we are all lucky and the weather gods are on our side.

Pretty much frothing though hahah

ok, we are right at the far end, as far away from you guys as possible i think, unless you decide to stay in denham!  will catch up at some point, and likewise can't wait.  we will be heading across from denham on saturday 8th, probably about lunchtime.  we are camping at murchison crossing the night before.  if you are heading across at the same time, we'll probably see you.
