Fishing charter full of shit?

Hey guys, a mate got tickets for a charter out of freo on sunday, it was cancalled due to the swell. Im no expert but it didn't seem that bad. Im wondering are they over booking the boat, it was off scoupon, so i wonder if the fill the boat with people paying full price. i went for a fish at hilarys and it looked like you could take a tinnie to rotto! any thoughts?

Hillarys Charters

Mon, 2013-05-27 12:25

I was on the rescue boat in Hillarys sunday. Went about 4 nm offshore and conditions were perfect. Swell was up a bit but perfect wind for drift. Saw a least one charter vessel out of hillarys return about 3pm.

im with you shut it

Mon, 2013-05-27 13:02

im with you, shut it down, mine also got cancelled 2 months ago, and has been cancelled twice since due to "poor weather", anything that looks over 2 metres they can. the problem is you cant get back on for another 2 months at a time due to it being fully booked.

im still waiting to use my voucher that i purchased about 4 months ago.

got my own boat in between that time haha.

Same situation

Mon, 2013-05-27 13:17

Couple of years ago missus bought 2 scoupons for a charter. Finally managed to get out on one of the scoupons after heaps of tries. After trying a couple of times to book the second one I finally gave up and wasted the scoupon as the first trip out wasn't that great anyways.

 I think this says more

Mon, 2013-05-27 13:26

I think this says more  about  Scoopon than anything else. Wife's had exactly the same experience with hairdressers and we've both had the same with restaurants. They love getting the business but when it comes time to honoring the vouchers a lot of them back off with shit excuses. No more Scoopons for us.

I found the morning on sunday a bit sloppy but not bad at 10km and thats in a 19'.  the charter boats are a wee bit bigger :) I cant see them canceling based on the forecast for sunday which was pretty good.

Im not the only one by the sounds of things then!

My mate spoke to the charter company (fish on, i wont mention the company, im not out to screw them) and they said it was cancelled due to the swell forecast. They do this early because people get upset if it is done at the last minute, they cancelled all there charters on friday untill tuesday. she apologized because it wasn't that bad in the end.

Do they not have spots closer, pretected from wind ect. for days like that. seems a good way to loose alot of buisness to me.

If they cancelled the whole

Mon, 2013-05-27 17:47

If they cancelled the whole day and not just your ticket then there's no argument for treating scoupon users badly etc. Like you said, loses business and $$$ for them so they might actually be trying to do the right thing by trying to give everyone a good day out

Scoupon is a site where you

Mon, 2013-05-27 22:21

Scoupon is a site where you can buy cheap prepaid vouchers for many things from haircuts to car washes to fishing charters (basically anything). this works out for some things however...

Be warned when buying scoupons for charters.

I know of  a charter operator here in SA who refuses to deal with Scoupon and was puting up posts on a SA website warning people not to buy them as he found scoupon were selling more vouchers that he could possibly take out in the given time frame before they expired.

Basically if scoupon sells a "paid for voucher" and it was not taken up within the alloted time scoupon pocket the money as there was no refund in this instance (and they didn't have to redeem the monies to him as he hadn't received the business).  If the vouncher was taken up scoupon would only get a smaller fee as they had to redeem say 80% of the voucher to his business so it was in scoupons interest to oversell vouchers.  He was peaved that this left him to pick up the mess and it was his business that was left with the bad name.

That being said I know some people who say they have saved heaps for services through scoupon just not involving fishing charters>
