Hi Guys,

Can somebody please tell me what is the capacity for an 18 foot half cabin boat, I want to take the family crabbing in Mandurah with my mates family as well just wondering how many we are allowed on the boat in the estuary.

mines 17.5 and licensed for 5.  previously had an older 18ft also 5.  What jackets have you got - need the appropriate size/weight jacket if any kids on board.

Just pick a spot on the shore and take turns taking them out. Too crowded with more than 4 on board anyway, and of course there's the safety issue.

Spot on Andy. When I only had

Spot on Andy. When I only had my 3m dinghy I'd take my brother across to the flats and then go pickup Dad and my 4y old and we'd head across to rejoin him and then take turns going out and pulling pots whilst the rest popped for whiting and scooped for crabs. Pt Grey is a nice spot to do that from.

1 per metre

I'm all for 1 person per full metre, then again depends on the boat. My centre console is 5.5m but I'd only ever take out a max of three people . It's all about safety first then comfort in my books.

 The builders plate capacity

The builders plate capacity is just a guide, in both directions.

Unless something has very recently changed, your boat is not "licenced" for any number.

DOT don't and can't enforce those numbers.

However if your boat capsized and you exceeded those numbers you may find yourself having to defend why in a civil case.
