Boat rebuild in progress

Thought some fishwrecked members might be interested in a recent boat modification i have been undertaking.

After purchasing this old boat and realising it had a few problems I had to give it my 2 cents worth. It was a pongrass waverider half cabin. I new the floor needed replacing from the start and after digging found it needed a new transom and stringers. So I basically had a bare fibreglass shell to work with.

A new inner fibreglass skin and 3 new stringers!! A marine ply deck glassed on both sides and new transom. Off with the cabin and a centre console to follow along with a box seat, anchor well and a large seat which will double as a big esky. Its a work in progress and I still have the top side, a urethane paint job and final fitout to go. As sure as eggs there will be something else to do once that is done.

Iam over budget by a bit but I dont care at this stage as Iam happy. haha

Iam hanging out to get it on the water as you could probably imagine

I will post up some final finish photos eventually

Fatten up and multiply fish... I will be with you shortly.....lol

take your budget and double or even triple it.

But you will have something unique and entirely suited to your fishing needs.

Looking great so far - I only wish I had the money, time and backyard to undertake a similar project....

great photos of the make over , have you looked at the removal of the cabin which is a structure to strengthen the bow area and what is required to replace this, i looked into the same with a 21 ft daytona but steered away when told i couldnt do it for that reason

I have taken this into consideration

and am going to use some gyrders if you could call them that (glass over ply)between the topside and hull and a rod rack either side, deck to topside. a raised deck area will compensate also. Being 5.2 mtr will be okay

The colour scheme has been decided by the missus

Picture this if you will. Gunsmoke grey deck, powder blue sides and white for the rest. The seats are gunsmoke grey marine carpet. Girders wasnt the right term I was looking for either. More like gussets.. As for price $3 gees will pull it up and as for time 4 months doing 10 to 20hrs a week. This would be alot less if I could have a good crack at it at a time rather than bits and peices..

Boat rebuild in progress

Congrats on progress so far. My Rebuild has been in the water for the past 3 months. there is nothing better than being on your own boat that has been customised to your requirements.

Knowing that you have seen and worked on all parts of the hull even makes the "safety factor" feel better when out deep alone.

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

  Hi Ya, Barney, the colour

Fri, 2009-11-27 13:40

Hi Ya,

Barney, the colour scheme sounds cool but have you thought of the difficulty of seeing you should (heaven forbid) they ever have to search for you from the air?  Those colours would be pretty hard to see I'd think.

Cheers.
