break downs
just wondering after seeing that someone had a fuel prob after they got in .How many of you have actually broken down while out on the water and how far out were you or even how close in , for us unfortunately it has happened a few times , furthest out was 19nm when my old boat dropped all its oil (2 stroke) and the closest was about 200 mtrs from point peron ramp when the steering shat itself, there has been a couple of times in our new boat but those were probs the boat had before we got it apart from when our gearbox went after braid got caught around the prop shaft then wore out the seals and dropped all the oil , we have had some bad luck with boats . alls good now .............. share your stories and embarasing moments like forgetting to put the bung in at the ramp (oooops done that one)

Break downs
We have had a few interesting moments. Heading over to Rottnest a while back the steering was a bit wonky wouldn't turn to the right. The clip that held the cable in place had broken. Luckily hubby had some tools and spares so we were off again in about 10mins.
We have also had some trouble with dirt in our fuel. This would block the carby up and make the motor cough and splutter and either want to run flat out or cut out. We worked out that the problem was the inside of the old glass fuel tank was disintigrating. So last winter hubby replaced old glass tank with ali and fitted two fuel filters had the carby reset and we have been great ever since.
One time comming back from Rottnest with the Combined Sea Rescue Convoy the weather was a bit rough with breeze hitting 25knts and a building 2.5m swell. We had just gone over for the day and did not have our storm cover.
The convoy was moving at a slow safe pace for the smaller craft ahead and we were smashing through the sides of the waves. The water was flying over the hard top and hitting the back deck.
When we got back to the ramp we realised that the leg hydrolic motor had copped a bit of water eventhough it is tucked away up the back of the boat. Hubby dried it out and it worked ok but we are having the seals replaced now so that it is a bit more water tight.
For us it has been handy having some spares on board and a bit of boat know how. Getting to things before they break down and knowing what the boat can do.
