Bream in vasse? (South of busso)

 Hello.

There is a creek running through vasse (small town near busselton)

I believe it is called dawsons creek. Near to the river mouth i have seen some kind of bream. What kind of bait do they prefer and what rig should I use? Also if you have heard of or fished there what kind of fish do you think I will find?

thanks for your time.

Other than the drain that runs through Vasse the next system is at Marybrook where the Carbanup river runs into the ocean.

That's what everyone calls it.

Everybody that lives near it simply calls it 'the drain'

Near cape naturalist high school. You have to cross it if you take the busso highway through vasse. It doesn't go through carbanup.

Bream Twich

Tue, 2013-01-29 09:08

Was at the drain a few nights ago getting some prawns at the mouth and saw one large black bream about 18 inches long with a large group of smaller ones tracking along behind him. Didn't have a rod with me at the time so I don't know if they're on the bite. I guess we're both there for the same reasons.

Are we talking about the right river?

Tue, 2013-01-29 09:09

I'm talking about the creek/river that runs through the town of vasse. Are you talking about the vasse river that goes through busselton? Because that's not what I was talking about.

In the early days we used to fish a lot of those drains from vasse through to dunsburough and the bream were partial to mince. the set up we used was very light just a swivel for weight and small hook.

Most of the bream at the high school drain are tiny, that waterway has been totally hammered over the years from fishos and environmentally. Monahans drain at Vasse has a few, but it's better for big yellow fin whiting. As Matt said, Wonerup will produce more regularly. Got to remember though, blackies are very slow to grow, that's the main reason I don't go after them much anymore.

cheers

Dale

Vasse Drain

Fri, 2015-10-16 18:09

 Hi FYI

The  drain  at Vasse is actually called Bouyanup drain..pronounced Boo- an- up.  It runs behind Vasse South east to Nor West then straightens after passing under Kalorup Rd bridge in a northerly direction and empties into the sea.  Possibly referred to as Dawson's as they were early settlers in Vasse taking up land there in 1886 and constructed a hand fired brick cottage there in 1889 on a parcel of land surveyed by John Forrest..... the property is still in the family and owned by my mum.
