Broome Recon - looking for a couple of clarifications

Heading up to Broome on Thursday and have a day to get out and wet a line landbased.  I've got some great info through the search function but just need to clarify a couple of things I can't find info on:

  • Can someone give me a heads up on where Willie Creek is?  Is it part of the Dampier Creek system or is it somewhere else?
  • How's the accessability to the estuary system north of Broome around Kennedy's Cottage? (or is that Willie Creek?)

Cheers

Broome LB

Hey Ben!

Have fished LB up there a few times, and have fished a few different spots.

Willie Creek is where the Pearl Farm tours are.  Looks like a great little creek setup, though I have never fished it. Plenty of little access areas on the nroth side bank leading back towards the ocean.  About 40mins north of town I think.  From my experiences, the better option was Barred Creek.  Just a bit further past the Willie Creek turn off.  4WD req to drive to the mouth.

I'm sure there will be someone on FW that'll have a better recollection than me.  Barred Creek is pretty awesome on the tide changes.

Other than that, I had a heap of success just under the Jetty down from the cafe throwing SP'd and lures when I was there last.  Heaps of Queenies and Trevs.

Good luck mate!

Willie creek and Barred

Willie creek and Barred creeks are both a little north of Broome ,whilst Dampier creek is inside the Roebuck bay. Both creeks have good access for last based fishing.Even dampier creek can be land based accessed by parking your car at the mangrove holel and walking down to the creek . The first of the run in and last of the run out tides are good times to fish the creeks. Willie creek holds plenty of water on the low tide whilst barred creek empties. This time of year is perfect for barra ,always jacks, trevs, queenies. The flats in front of both creeks hold lots of fish also...  including Permit. They are sand bottom creeks so the water in clean all the time whilst dampier is mud bottomed.

Thanks for the info fellas. Just double checking whether my cheap hire car will be allowed to hit up the dirt roads north of town.  If not then I might end up sticking to Dampier creek; around the main jetty and Gantheaume Point.

Don't know where the Bird Observatory is do you? Heard things can be alright behind there...

if you get the tides right

if you get the tides right and can go down the dirt roads, there is a road just out of town (towards Derby) about 2 or 3 k's called crab creek road, head down there, its a few km's down that gravel road but there is loads of spots which are good for salmon etc, think crab creek is better known by the locals than tourists.  What ever place you try, sunbathing next to the water and turning your back to it is not the best idea, there was a 4 or 5 m salty at crab creek last time I was up there
