Carpet adhesive

hey fellas,

had to pull my carpet up in my boat to get to fuel tank. Anyone know what adhesive I should use to glue it back down? It's an Ali deck. I was looking at Bunnings the other and gave up looking because I wasn't quite sure. Cheers

If it's Ali floor why bother with carpet?

Might be better to paint with a non slip product added in also. Carpet will simply stay wet and stink if it is glued straight to Ali. Or you could look at that rubber ribbed matting but that stuff is expensive!

Get the chq book ready though! It's about $80 a lineal metre.good sh@t though, just take it out and hose off after a day's fishing, doesn't hold water or smell at all.

Contact adhesive

Sun, 2017-07-09 18:53

you want a contact adhesive. The spray ones work good on boat carpet, and the tins for the solid substrate.

x 2 on contact adhesive but agree with above. My boat has the carpet glued down and I would much prefer a non-stick flowcoat and clip in carpet much easier to clean and probably would leave out the carpet for fishing days..

Non skid paint the floor then

Non skid paint the floor then the carpet will stay in place without gluing. Easy to take out and clean.

I have been working for my father for a while years a go hi does car and marine upholstery and a good contact glue would be his choice.

the only advice is to use a clean paint brush and apply evenly on both clean and dry surfaces, last but not least make sure to wait few minutes before laying the carpet, needs to slightly dry before.

to give you one idea as soon as is not liquid anymore at the touch is ready to go.Usually take less than3/4 minutes.

if you need to do big area you definitely need to go by sections otherwise the glue will dry too much....

After l pulled the carpet up

Wed, 2017-07-12 14:29

After l pulled the carpet up to get access to my fuel tank l bought new carpet but l didnt clue it down. Cut it in 2 sections and left it loose on my ali deck. It hardly moved under foot.

Its great to be able to lift out and hose off at end of the day. Also if l need to access the tank again l dont have to rip it up again.
