Catch & Release during closed season
Submitted by Iceman on Fri, 2010-10-22 09:36
I am concerned at the recent photos posted on the site showing Dhufish being caight and released. Why are they targeting these species during the closed season? If it was a by catch from chasing sambo etc then that is different. I realise they were all released but what is the survival rate. Also does that mean it is OK to chase snapper in cockburn sound as long as you release them. If fisheries were to see these photos and report to the fisheries minister they may decide to bring in even tighter ristriction. There are plenty of other species you can chase during the closed season. Don't stuff it up for those who are doing the right thing.

Advise dates Caught
They should advise date caught so we don't jump to conclusions. Also who catches 10 dhuies and does not keep at least one for a feed, particularly just before a 2 month ban?

kept 2
He said he kept 2 for the table. One would assume that it was before the ban and that someone wouldn't incriminate themselves on a website that fisheries regularly checks.

You would hope so Adam, but
You would hope so Adam, but Iceman has a point - putting those up now without a 'caught before the ban' message was always going to start this sort of thing.

yeh
Yeh I know John, had the same thing last year. Always plenty of people putting up photos when they join the site that don't necessarily have to have been caught during the ban. Just a lot of people jump to conclusions because its a; why should they be doing it when I can't. Nothing against Iceman though because his point is valid and people should let you know that it was caught pre-ban, then again, we can't go jumping down every one's throat because they put up a pic of a fish. Unfortunately its the way it goes with internet sites, I just try to keep it civil so that people continue to post their photo's.

Good Call Adam
A disclaimer in the comment area would help with any misunderstanding regarding photo dates.
Since I have joined fishwrecked which isn't very long I have found that generally all members have a good understanding of the fishing rules and regs and would want to do the right thing.
Keep Up the Good Work
