Catching sand whiting, is it me or?

 Evening people,

for the last two days i have been testing my light gear to catch some small fish.

i have made up a running sinker rig with a long shank hook and two of those red fluoro plastic beads on it.

Using Gulp! Camo 2" worms and i seem to have a LOT of nibbles, wich is asome, but the amount of nibbles and hook ups are very different. If the hook up rate was close to the nibble rate i would have had a whole freezer full of em.

i am using gamakatsu long shank #10.

is there something i got/doing wrong here, or are the just hard to hook up?

fished at various times troughout the days.

all off the rockwall behind the marina in mandurah

in the last 10 mins i hooked up 3 tarwhines wich seem to fight a bit better too, are the more a night kind of fish?

Your technique is fine

but the fish are all probably very small. So either use a smaller hook and cut up your plastics or move around until you a school of bigger fish. I remember a couple of years back fishing silversands just south of Mandurah and the dolphins all worked together to push the whiting close to the beach, I had my snorkel on me and have never experienced anything like it to this day. Also 15 cm inside the boat harbour

 Try some smaller hooks and

Try some smaller hooks and as small a plastic you can buy. Or i have had lots of success with whiting using a i think its a no2 long shank hook and a piece of squid or prawn the size of half a pea and that has Caugh me plenty up to 30+cm whiting the beaut thing with smaller hooks is u turn most nibbles into catches as you will also be catching the 10cm ones.

There are plenty of whiting around mandurah. Go to the dome in hallshead (dotties beach) get a coffee then walk across the road there is a groin i generally fish around this area off the beach look for the small gutters some time the fish are 3-4 meters of the beach other times they will be holding closer to the boat morings just walk the beach casting to find them the beach to the right is a dog beach so be carefull what you leave on the sand some dogs love bait.

Cheers

Rod

if your using a size 10# and 2in plastic I don't think theres much point downsizing any further. Try using a size 8 jighead, I find the hookup rate better than using a standard hook with a running sinker.  If you still have no luck try a squid tentacle
