Chasing a Mooring over at Rotto

Looking for some kind hearted boatie with a Mooring over at Rotto that they are willing to share (I am sure we can work something out).

Must be suitable for a 11 m (37ft) tub.

Theyre as rare as rocking horse shit for a boat that size . All of the private ones got snapped up years ago . A mate of mine bought into a three way syndicate for a 48 ft Riviera. The only reason why that’s got access to moorings in the primary ( now gone ) syndicate holder got em back in the early 80s. It’s crazy what you have to do to get a mooring over there . Even crazier is how damn crowded it gets , some days you could almost walk from the boat to shore !

As other have said you need to contact RIA if you want to get on a shared mooring as they control it (tightly!)
You can however rent moorings through the RIA and they are not that expensive, you will need to get in early as they do book out fast in the warmer months.

Apply to RIA

Every few months they review the moorings and who is allocated as authorised users.  If a mooring has fewer than five users the RIA will allocate additional users.  There is a waiting list but it depends on boat/mooring size.  Our boat is 36’, we got onto a mooring in Thomson’s almost straight away (although we were already on the shared mooring system from another mooring in Stark, not sure if that made any difference).

You’ll still have to pay the application fee and annual fee, which will run you the better part of $1000.  Upside is that you can visit as often as you like and don’t pay visitor fees (or accommodation costs if you can sleep on the boat).
