A couple of bream

I dropped into see the boys at the Tackleshack today and picked up a new bream rod and reel that I so desperately needed (well thats what I told the missus!) so I thought I had better find the time today to "blood" the new outfit before I flyout in the morning so I made an hour in between a couple of meetings that I had to attend and found these two hanging on the same snag. Xzoga rod and Stradic 1000 make a good combo.

Hmm brg, I caught them in the river not too far from home, with the sounds of an airport in the back ground and the back water behind me.

The thing that surprised me

Thu, 2010-01-28 21:05

The thing that surprised me was the first one was well conditioned and the second was slightly bigger, more aggresive but allot lighter, both fell to Atomic Hardz drifted into the snag on the incoming tide.

Ive never caught a bream on a lure yet.... Maybe theres something im not doing right. I normally use sp's but ive heard hard bodies work well if fished close to the snags... Thats what ive found with bait, bream will only take bait if it is put "in" the snags then they with grab it and swim for the closest stick or log. Its a good way to lose gear.

You don't have to say exactly where, but the grass and mud looks very similar to an area where I fish.

Just wondering what is the difference in a "Bream Rod" comared to any ordinary rod? I mean couldnt you use any rod for bream or is there something about that is specifically desighned for bream?

Usually 1-3 or 2-4kg blanks.

Fri, 2010-01-29 09:28

Usually 1-3 or 2-4kg blanks. They are light weight and made to cast lures down to a couple of grams.

You can use anything, especially with bait fishing but with an ultra lightweight rod, small reel and good braid, you can cast small lures a long way and stay light enough to put alot of action into the lure.

It would be hard to put good action into a plastic or hard body lures using a fibreglass, soft rod with a 3000-4000 size reel on it.
