 Get yourself a 150mm spool

Get yourself a 150mm spool float and some shark clips. That way you can have 20m of rope available for Blackwall Reach but can reduce it down to 2m if you head to Mandurah

Draggin Lady

Sun, 2016-02-21 07:43

Get yourself some square crab nets from draggin lady, has a gumtree ad and goes to Mandurah Mandjar markets every second sunday.

Also sold at Crackpots Freo way.

Shark clips are a great idea, I use 6" floats on a bridle with a shark clip, much easier to see and less likely to get run over. I use 6m rope in canning and Mandurah..

I use bait cages and shark clips to hold bait down, chicken carcasses are cheap from Lenards on the clips and waste food from the freezer in cages eg fatty works best.

Do you need a lesson?

And dont forget

you need a Boat fishing licence.
Im Mandurah based. As a beginner don't go out and buy the most expensive nets first up. Just basics will do. I prefer net rather than wire base, but that's not critical. Use bait cages (Black platic) as above, but clip them on aswell as use the plastic "lock" they come with because sting rays will open them fairly often.
I use floats with a short segement of rope looped, then about 2-3m of main line to the net terminating in a loop. I keep the nets stacked and the floats in one of those platic handled colourful buckets that Bunnings etc sell. To Connect the floats and line use a stainless steel carabiner clip to connect. Just makes storing the nets easier. This way if I was to travel to a deep area I can also increase the length of rope with loop to loop connection which is piss easy. This works for me.
Floats - well they all work, and Our favourite (and Lucky) floats are called "milk Bottles" and is two 2L plastic Milk bottles tied together. For a bit of colour just slop some coloured paint inside and let dry, and you have some high vis floats. Cheep as, and in our household you always have plenty spare.
Only ever had one spring a leak, and the other kept it floating.
Bait - everything works IMO. Ranging from fish, chicken/lamp necks, frames and spleen to mention a few. Necks last longer, spleen is good but fish appears to attract more, BUT also the stingrays love fish too, and pop the lids every now and then.
Hope this helps but everyone has their favourite way, so just go out and try.
