Crabs

Hey all.

I'm heading down to busso for a squidding adventure and a bit of fishing thrown in for a good feed. I was wondering if it is worth taking some crab nets down and get some crabs, squid and fish for a feed?

Also what is everyone favourite bait to use for drop netting? I just use fresh fish frames, like herring or bait fish like yellow tail.

Cheers danno.

theres usually a few down

theres usually a few down there so i dont see why not, couple months back i was walking the beach a few ks south of town and counted over 100 of the buggers in a 10min stroll with just a dolphin torch. never crabbed down there but the bait cages are good, blowies have less of a chance ripping the bait to shreads. take a scoop net too! squid with a mulie or 2 in the tube is good, lasts a few drops easy

Pretty sure

you need an RFBL to drop crab pots off the jetty and it's only 4 pots per person now too.

RFBL, the third letter should

RFBL, the third letter should be the giveaway BOAT, a jetty is not a boat. I've never seens anything written from fisheries from any mail they have sent me.

as you said B, except-

Only if you use a boat to get to (or more to the point from) your destination.

Easy way to look at it is if you are going to carry rec caught fish in your boat you need an RFBL, Exception is if it is already a licenced fishery ie crays have their own licence so you dont need an RFBL.

I've been told

and could be wrong that you need an RFBL to use crab pots as they are primarily used by boat users for catching crabs. Busso jetty does have some new 'local' fishing rules that are different to fisheries legislation and they have been amended since there inception.

Brucesta that's not exactly the case, if you use a boat to get to you landbased fishing destination you need an RFBL.

i have generelly used chicken

Sat, 2011-07-16 10:11

i have generelly used chicken frames for bait in the drop nets, I have also found that one of the best baits used is the Blowie, I have had some great sessions with them and caught some awesome crabs with them.  Give them a run on one of your nets and count the ratio of normal bait, eg fish or chicken frames to blowies
