They're cheap so it doesn't matter too much if they get stuck or lost. They don't need as much ballast to keep them down and are easier to pull if you don't have a winch.
Also if you get a wobby in them you can split the plastic pots in half and dump them out. With wood ones you have to reach in with your hand to pull them out.
My mate has a pair of plastic ones and they definitely catch crays.
couple of things you might want to think about or advise are
whats your budget ?
how often will you use them ?will you fish just a few weeks each year or longer term out to a few months? next year etc
how big is your boat ?? do you have any space issues to carry full size or will 3/4 pots be better ?
is your boat glass or ali ?? as steel bottom last longer but can scratch up the side of a glass boat without protection ?
who/how will you be pulling them , just you or a winch ec
how deep do you want to fish ?? and time of the year ??
plastic pots go ok in the whites if weighted well, but winter in bad weather and big swells they can be more susceptible to moving , due to their shape and lack of weight often
if you are only fishing them for say 4-6 weeks this time of the year, but you also want something that you can use at any time of the year , pull by hand yourself out to a medium depth that will last several seasons at reasonable cost then id be going for 3/4 size steel base slat pots with jarrah frames and pine battens
buy some with front doors , so no probs with wobbys and well weighted
