We'll see how we go for time Rob, bit of a flying trip this time around, i'm not even bringing a rod with me. Personally i'd rather be fishing then putting this fat body through it's paces in the cold for two days.

Think Sams team got a fish early.

was on the clubs channel yesterday, tagged fishing being called in roughly every half hour and mainly marlin, should be good final tally.
hooked one at the ships early yeaterday but couldnt convert it.......saw bait balls bailed up by big solid arches on the sounder, but couldnt raise them through the middle of the day.

Gday Stevo,Shootout was a
Gday Stevo,
Shootout was a very quiet comp this year. The weather was heaps better than the usual 25-30 knots, but the fish just werent playing the game. We only ended up with 1 sail from a double hookup and missed a few others.
Im pretty sure that Tourettes won champion boat, Champion female and won the boat in the raffle - something you would know a bit about! LOTS of boats ended the weekend without even seeing a fish. Hopefully the Classic is a little more fishy.
Seeya later.

C'mon girlie man, you've seen how we go on the boat!
Just had some REALLY bad news regarding the Classic, turns out the first 2 days are the 30th and 31st of July - the last 2 days of Dry July.......worst time for a comp! No boozin' for me

Quite a few bait balls, but
Quite a few bait balls, but not much on them yet. Might be getting rounded up by other pelagics though (some areas were closed out due to Mackies). The high number of Marlin caught (in comparison to Sails) would suggest that perhaps more people went lures and a bit more pace to cover ground to find the fish as there werent many around, and to add to it, a lot of guys were having radio issues due to the weather conditions which gave the perception they were a long way out catching the fish (more chance of marlin this way usually).
There was definately a lot of bum steers and 'code' talking going on over the radio!
