Deeper Water King George Whiting

G'day this is my first post on this website.  I have been a long time stalker but been a bit slack on sorting a membership out.  I will post some picturers etc. soon.  I usually fish about 25nm north of two rocks and I have been reasonably successful with Dhuies and Baldies recently but I am real keen to change tactics a bit and see if I can pick up some King George next time I am out.  I mainly fish on direction bank (as shallow as 30m) and the drop off behind it (down to 100m).  I was wondering if anyone who fishes out that far has any success with king George or if I am too far out for them.  I understand that you can get them in close, but I am really interested in hearing from people who do chase them out wide.  Funnily enough I have only ever caught one as bi catch which is a suprisingly low rate compared to the amount of Dhuies and baldies we catch.  We use either fresh occy or any of the small wrasses or saergent bakers we catch for bait, usually on pattenoster rigs either with dropper loops or snelled hooks on a wide range of hooks, usually about the size of a hoodlum 6/0 ( alot bigger than a standard whiting hook but everybody tells me they should be able to swallow a hook that size).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Glenn

We used to target them about

We used to target them about 6-9 mile out on the rubble grounds just after the first winter storm and would do very well usually getting about 4 or more 50+cm fish plus dhuies and baldies all on the same ground. Just at the start of winter they where all full of eggs so I'm guessing that's where they would breed. Hope this helps, I have caught them out that far at direction just never found the patterns like we did in close.

Agree with Chris .  I certainly am no kg expert , but I do fish D bank regularly.  They are V V few and far between out there.   When I have been held back closer in, due to weather , I have picked them up.  I run a small 2/0 hoodlum on the bottom snell , when a bait goes down , for just that reason.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
