Hey mate I have the Sea Jay 3.95 Angler and run a 2 stroke 25 Merc on it.
It is a big 12 footer (beam & depth more ribs) and to be honest I recon you would be under done with a 15hp.
If you have any way of up grading your engine size I can thoroughly recommend the Sea Jay Angler as a very sea worthy tinny having owned it from new for 10years with no problems.

Edit: Just re read, should have said 13 footer. Fat fingers on the phone.

Mate do you have 3.85 angler? I didn't think it came in 3.95?? Anyway what about the 3.75 is rec 15 hrs and 88 mm depths so not losing much there depth wise....the 3.85 is rec 20 hsp so was hoping a 15 wasn't going underpowered hmmmmmmm... Thanks for the feed back too, good to hear about the seajay, I will check the stacker out too solly

3.95
But I have owned it for 10 years so not sure if the size has changed in new models.
Also I will add with the 25hp I can run 4 guys on board, with surf boards around in 3+ meters of swell into a line up.
I prefer to be over gunned than under done and floundering.

+ 1 for 3.9m & 25hp

Sat, 2014-08-16 09:02

Was going to give a spool on versatility of 3.9m and 25hp but looks like you have the 15hp motor already and are replacing the boat. Still good fishing and trips to be found and as you stated with max of 2 people and keeping the weight down should be a good deal. also very cheep to maintain and run.

If you already have

a 15 hp engine I'd stick with 12 ft (3.7 m) I had a 3.75 Quintrex Dart for a few years with a Yamaha 15 and it was great for two people. The depth is still 0.86 which was fine. No problem going a few k's offshore either on the right day!

 I'm still think the 3.85

Sat, 2014-08-16 20:18

I'm still think the 3.85 would b ok for just me, or maybe one more bloke, it's ownly 6 kilos heavier than the 3.75 , just looking at the photos the 3.85 looks so much bigger and better in the water... Thoughts ?? am I pushing that much with a 15 hp?

I imagine the 3.85

would be ok with 15, though the recommended hp is 20. Though it's only 6 kg heavier, it is also 10 cm wider. That's all good, but it means it will have a little more drag through the water. It does look like a nice size though!

How soon are you looking to buy? The mandurah boat show is in October. Maybe go for a wander around and compare tinnies? Just a thought.
