Evinrude Oceanpro electrical problem

Chasing some advice on intermittent electrical fault on my Evinrude Oceanpro (2 Stroke) 200hp outboard.

Headed out today at 6am. Started normally with no problems and durning the 40 min run out - nothing suspicious. Stopped at first spot and started drift. Went to start to move for second drift and nothing - not even a click or whine. Radios, etc all powered up. Engine gauges all powered on and beep ok when key turned on. Checked throttle out of gear, battery terminals, changed batteries but still nothing. Checked under the cover but nothing obvious. After about another 6 attempts decided to call Sea Rescue for assistance. After about 30mins towing (1.5hrs since problem first found) attempted to start motor and off she roared. Stopped and started about a dozen times since and starts every time.

Obviously an electrical problem before the starter motor. Any sparks or outboard mechanics got any suggestions where I should start looking? Thanks in advance.

Neutral selector

Had a similar problem few years back turned out to be the neutral selector position switch in the

throttle control binnicale , next would be the kill switch unit

Thanks. Will check kill switch

I've never used this and had not even considered it. Neutral selector is next option although I'd jiggled it in/out of gear many times as that was my first thought. Really appreciate your tips. Thanks again.

Make sure the helix shaft on

Make sure the helix shaft on the starter motor is greased lightly maybe. I had a similar problem on my 75hp Etec but I could see the pinion gear still jammed up on the fly wheel.

Probably the neutral selector switch.

From all the research I've doen it appears that the neutral switch is the probable cause. Correct me if I'm wrong but if the kill switch was faulty the engine coulkd still crank over. Mine was completely dead suggesting the neutral switch as this prevents any power getting to the engine.

Both

Both kill switch and neutral selector won't allow to motor to crank , kill switch might isolate gauges as well , have not got mine to compare both cases

Very similar ordeal with mine..older johno 2 stroke oil injected. Mine was the plug going to the drive controls having one dicki wire..earth for the Oil / Fuel pump alarm, it would turn over cold and start and run....but once hot and shut down would not start again.

Was the last thing i checked..
