Exmouth holiday

After discussion with the girls at Ningaloo Reef Holidays this morning I cancelled our house that was booked for 3 weeks in June (they are paying back my deposit less $100 administration fee which I'm happy about), they told me that the local Shire Council don't want visitors for the time being, allowing only 20 people a time in the local IGA's, all liqour outlets and restuarants are only doing takeaways as per goverment orders, whale shark tours and fishing charters are closed (was taking our own boat so not a problem there). Because of limited medical falcilities and the fact that Exxie is quite isolated they are probably thinking of their own residents and I for one can't blame them, I would suggest that anyone who is booked in up there to make enquiries and not presume that all will be "unkey dory". Stay safe and lets hope some sanity will prevail.

Yep, pretty gutted but we will cancel our trip over the next day or two. I was purely waiting for the government to make the decision for us which was always going to be enevitable.

Refund

Tue, 2020-03-24 21:08

Yep wouldn't minded the full refund being on a part pension but what the hell I'm happy getting back the majority, pity making people stay at home as there's a couple of spots I haven't fished down here (Mandurah) for awhile.

Refunds

Tue, 2020-03-24 21:53

No chance

you all need to grow up

tourism businesses are not cash cows they have no money , they are caught with cash flow dramas leading into their busiest part of the year , they've all just incurred big expenses getting ready to accommodate mass amount of tourists

so for those sooking  about refunds , there is no money , I will say it again , there is no fucking money ! The industry is in turmoil like nearly every other business

the best they can do is offer credit so accept that and grow up and stop the personal expectations

as others have aid this is serious , it's not about money

 Speaking a bit harsh there.

Wed, 2020-03-25 05:51

Speaking a bit harsh there. Yes the tourism industry is in the shit , so are many people that save their hard earned $ to go on these trips away and with the virus hitting they then will possibly need the cash to help get through themself.  So I don't think it's unfair that they would like their $ back at all. I am lucky in the way we don't need the coin to get through unlike many and I will if needed Re book for next year where we were going. I work in the transport industry dealing with food so I'm a bit luckier than many on here .

refunds

Wed, 2020-03-25 06:51

 I don't agree

I have holidays booked in Exxy for July & paid for a caravan space in advance, $500.00 & also paid a $900.00 deposit on the caravan hire from Campifly, i would be expecting a full refund from both companies, less there admin fees. I don't see why i should just "loose" my hard earned cash.

Refunds

Wed, 2020-03-25 13:48

Slugger, last time I looked I wasn't a registered charity so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect my deposit back less any admin fees also my return is in line with the the companys policy, that is cancelation 60+ days before due date. May I suggest you take a "chill pill" because I'm sure you wouldn't like to hand over $2155.00 as a deposit and blow the lot and as I've stated most reputable companies have a refund policy as apart of their contracts, the reason I put up the original post was to remind anyone else in the same situation as me to think about cancelling if they needed to now I've got that off my chest my wish is that all and sundry remain healthy and live to fish another day.

Most food and fuel suppliers are demanding to be paid before your order is sent out, none of the usual pay in 7-14 days any more.

Wed, 2020-03-25 17:52

We made the decision to shutdown a few days ago. Unfourtnetly it is the only choice are our remote towns have no capacity to deal with the sick if ther is a outbreak. So our only option is to try and avoid it. Sounds like everthing is comming to a stop now but we have had reports of potential cases for operators who wanted to push it a bit more. So if anyone asks, sorry Coral Bay is closed. We have no other choice. As for refunds we have fully refunded all our bookings that are affected so far. We did not make this decision lightly as the finantial impact on our family business will be huge. We will be having to eat deeply into what was going to be a deposit for a family home in Exmouth (lucky we are in this position) in a effort to make sure the door is open when this is all over.

‼ COUNCIL URGES RESIDENTS TO COME HOME NOW AND REQUESTS NON-RESIDENTS TO GO HOME

The Shire of Exmouth has been very clear of late that our single most important objective is the safety and wellbeing of our Local Community.
Yesterday we asked all travellers to re-think their need to visit Exmouth during this Pandemic Crisis.
So far, it seems that the message hasn’t got through as the level of holiday bookings starts to outweigh the cancellations.

Exmouth, and the Ningaloo Region, is one of the most welcoming holiday destinations in existence and most certainly will be again on the other side of this unprecedented emergency, but right now, we can not cater for ANY visitors.

Today, the Council is calling on the State Government to fast track proposals restricting travel within regions, and to go the extra step, requiring non-locals to head home.

Our small remote town is not only ill-equipped to handle the spread of COVID-19 if the virus presents, but is absolutely incapable of supporting any more people than our local population.

THE CLEAR MESSAGE WE ARE TRYING TO SEND IS THIS:
The best place to ride out this crazy time is close to your home. We absolutely want locals to come home, but are requesting all non-locals to go home.
For those travellers with no home, we recommend being close to major regional centres or cities that are better resourced to welcome you, both from a health and a supply point of view.

Local Government is trying it’s best to support our community, but we need the State Government to help us in our efforts.

If you are still thinking of hooking up the caravan, and heading to our region to “Ride this out”, we ask with all sincerity… PLEASE DON'T.

Our supermarket is not coping due to warehouse shortages and rationing, and our community relies heavily on our local IGA’s ability to source enough grocery supplies to sustain our very small population.
We do not have the luxury of going to the next suburb if our local supermarket is low on stock. Our closest suburb is 360km away.

We absolutely understand the devastating blow this is to the Resorts, Caravan Parks and Holiday Homes within our town, and are hoping that they, as an integral part of our community will support councils position, accept cancellations, reject new bookings and work with affected travellers by refunding or re-scheduling holiday plans.

Council is united in this position and is taking this drastic step solely for the well-being of our community.

Carnarvon shire has sent out a notice on very much the same lines. Coral Bay, Blowholes camping area, New Beach and Bush Bay plus Gladstone were closed at 10 this morning. Some not very happy campers were trying to find other spots to set up without much luck so would expect Nerren Nerren and Galena stop overs will be packed
