Exmouth Sharks

Hi All,

Im heading up to Exmouth in a few months for my annual fishing trip. Without fail we always unintentionally catch a number of sharks, so i was wondering if anyone keeps any of the sharks they catch when fishing up there to eat? If so what species would you recommend to keep for a feed?

Cheers

Lemon Shark

Sun, 2012-05-20 19:51

Just got back Friday from Exmouth .We caught a lemon shark off the beach that we kept for dinner which fed 8 of us and was very nice battered with some chips. The fishing was a touch slow with the recent moon so it was a welcome addition and allowed us to bring most of the good stuff home .

Cheers Nimbin,

I will keep Lemon sharks in mind. Im always partial to some battered fillets with chips and a cold beer. Im sure that would go down well with the rest of the lads on my trip too!

Catch as many as you can mate. From our recent experiences there were heaps and with plenty of jewellery too!

The whole place is swamped with sharks at the moment.. From Carnarvon all the way up to Exxy!!

Small bronzies and black tips, if bled properly  dont taste to bad either... We have kept a few of these recently for a feed !!

Last two trips I've kept one

Last two trips I've kept one - both times a whaler.

If you treat them properly after catching, and freeze them before eating, then they can cook up really well.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Yep just got back and ths sharks are everywhere. Agree with nimbin the fishing was a bit slow,some-one said due to water temp being around 28 degrees-usually around 26 degrees ??. But every-ne we spoke to said it was unusually quiet. My first trip so i thought it was unreal still after years of fishing metro.

 Include the montes with the

Include the montes with the shark problem, very good mate just spent 10 days over there and between 8 blokes 2 boats only landed 30kg fillets, said they were lucky to get one fish off any new spot then least 5 sharks circling. Hope this doesn't stay the same I'm off to coral bay in 10 days and don't feel like feeding the sharks! Maybe should pack a smokey or two
