FAD motivation

I was up north recently (just into the NT) and we found a floating palm tree root in the middle of nowhere. It was loaded with dollies, all around 3kg and they were hitting anything- divers, poppers, stick baits and plastics. In the end I took the hooks off my stick bait and drove them crazy casting that around. There were a few bigger males sitting out the back (6-7kg each) but getting a lure with hooks in it to them was impossible as the smaller ones were onto it in a flash. I jumped over and took a few underwater pics. If you look closely in the palm tree photo you can see the dollies cruising around in the background. There were also a few nice triple tail under there, it’s amazing how much life relies on this type of structure.

That is an Asian FAD that broke away.
In SEA they just anchor a whole palm tree and that becomes the FAD for the season, bio degradable too!

beauty pics mate! I
beauty pics mate! I watched a David Attenborough doco awhile back where they found an old trawler net floating in the open ocean. It was fascinating to see the food web that had grown around it.
Dollies wouldve been great on light tackle!

That's fantastic Tim
It is amazing what will congregate around some structure. What a buzz of an experience. Nice Dolly too, by the way.

Pretty interesting about the
Pretty interesting about the Asian FADS. Thinking back the "top" of the tree was missing so it'd make sense. I was surprised there were no wahoo or other pelagics hanging around considering how much bait there was and the mood the dollies were feeding in.
Thanks for the compliments fella's, they were the pick of the many photos taken, I was using a borrowed olympus camera, the waterproof to 5m ones. I was surprised how good a pic it takes underwater.
