Festive surface whiting

Catching whiting on poppers is something I've wanted to do for a while and finally got into it after seeing all Callums posts. My brother and I have had a bit of successes over the last couple of weeks in the Mandurah system. We've used Bassday Crystal Poppers, Strada Virals and Berkley Subdog (?) lures. Had our best day the other day catching and releasing 15+ Yellowfin.

Cheers guys.

so much fun hey Beau. Getting them on surface lures is the best way.

I've found a nice little area down here that holds YFW and Black Bream in the same area.

ps. Berkley Scumdog

Been loving getting Whiting on the same lures you have used.........been having a terrible problem with rather large (40cm+) Tailor  too..........they totally go off on the Whiting gear....one bit me off the other day glad it was,nt a Crystal popper but still hurt leaving a great fish with a lure stuck in it

Stinger hooks

Mon, 2013-01-07 19:09

How are the stinger hooks working for ya ? I found with the scum dogs you get a lot of hits but drop a lot of fish with the trebles

All my whiting poppers are rigged with the stingers, I wouldn't fish without them. Still drop fish and miss hits but you can expect that with the whiting. The brands are Shout and Ecogear

If you are dropping a lot of fish try using a lighter rod, the hooks are fine. Had a similar problem and was solved instantly with the lighter rod. Other problem is more often than not it is the other fish pulling the lure out of the fishes mouth.

Nice work mate, good to see you could get onto a few :) Now you have to crack a bream on a lure, and then a Bream on topwater ;)
