First egi session last night - just a question.

Hi Guys,

Just a question for all the Squido's out there. Last night i went down for my first EGI session and at the end of the night it seems i was bitten off. Cast out had a few twitches and then bang, felt like a fish and before i could do anything gone. I got some of my leader back and it had definite bite marks in it. Is this a regular occurance with anyone or more of a freak event? Im using 4lb nitlon PE with a small amount of 8lb flouro as leader/wind on joined together by a bimini to albrieght.

On a plus side i did manage to get a couple, 4 in 5 casts (well 3 squid and 1 Cuttlefish). Spent more time driving to and from fremantle than actually squiding but it was worth it and ill be going again soon.

Sorry about the phone snaps it was late and i couldnt be bothered with the SLR.

Fish do bite the jigs every now and then, rare to hook one because of the short barbs, and in my experience not usually cause a bite off. Perhaps a gready tailor munched it down deep.

I certainly wouldnt change the leader up in size as this may spook the squid with their great vision.

Hahaha caught shit loads of charlie courts on squid jigs, greedy little shits. Sure i got fixed up by a doggie mackeral or two a couple of times in the shallows also, given the leader was bitten off. Have caught a squillion squid on 60lb leader too because I couldn't be bothered changing down. If they are on, they don't care much. Getting around to that time of year Neels, giddy up :-)

Cheers

not sure about others, but on many occasions ive had big nor-west blowies smashing my jigs. My mate has landed a few of them when they accidently swallow the whole jig and gets stuck. Could be them, they must be attracted to the jig colours makes them go nuts! Besides that well done!

I thought it may have been a tailor that grabbed it.

Im definitely going to stick with the line and leader class im using as it clearly works.
