This is my bro-in-law, he is up there for a couple of weeks work and fishing in between. He asked me to see if I could get an ID for him. Have to say buggered if I know what it is. As Matt says, the spots on the side and no white edges on fins make me think its not a GB
Usually the Duskytail has larger spots and they're spread all over the body, and not in such a tight pattern
Hard to tell from the photo, but the tail looks all dark whereas the Dusky's tail is unusual and only has dark on 2/3 of it's tail. The upper 1/3 is the colour of the body including spots

Not
a GB (no white edges on fins or bars on flanks)
The spots on the flanks are interesting. Can't say i've ever seen of them up there before.
One for Glenn I think?

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Dotted Grouper
Well done Tradewind - based on what I can make out from the photo, I agree that this is most likely a Dotted Grouper Epinephelus epistictus.
