Fry them in the pan, bit of toast and coffee. My grandmother used to do them up with a salad as well.

They are very nice, good ones from skippy too. Used to watch the Italians eat them raw when I was a kid, but haven't been able to do that one.

Yeah I'm the same with these, saw them cooked up in one of Rick Stein's cookbooks and while I'm happy to give most things a shot the roe does look pretty bad. How can you tell when it's cooked through?

Ive thought about eating roe
Ive thought about eating roe but cant do it, id rather eat the red meat out of the salmon!
I heard of a certain group of people eating the eggs straight off the back of crabs at the rockingham jetty a few years ago.

Just tried Herring Roe
I crumbed some Herring roe last night (my first try) and cooked them in butter with garlic, salt, pepper and a squeeze of fresh lemon - it was actually quite nice, with a mild fish flavour. Will certainly try that again, maybe as a spread on toast like others have suggested above.
I now wish I hadn't thrown the roe away from the salmon I caught the other day.
Thanks for the post Moking - like they say, don't knock it till you try it!!

Years ago
when fishing with my father and my younger sister down Golden bay (no houses then) he would catch whiting with roe and being a non fisher eater I loved these. Dad crumbed them and fried in butter, used to have to fight the cat off of them while eating but she always got some. Whiting roe is delicious and this is coming from somebody that only eats dhuie, baldie and black ass plus whiting and king george whiting. I highly recommend whiting roe, yummo.
