Fisheries Officer jobs, or other fishing related jobs

Hey guys,
Im only 16 and still havent decided what i want to do when im older, so when people tell me "do something you love, not something just for the money", the first thing that comes to mind is fishing.
Just wondering if theres any Fisheries Officers out there who would be able to tell me a bit about how to get into that profession, eg what high school grades you need, TAFE courses that need to be completed etc.
Are there any other fishing related jobs that people could reccomend?
Any advice would be awesome.
cheers robby

The problem is
that doing someting you love as a job soon becomes just that A JOB and unfortunatley you can soon lose the entusiasm you had before...better to do something you like to do but dont do what you love to do that way you can still love yourfishing

I will second that, I have
I will second that, I have only just got back into fishing after a long hiatus which was due in part to working in a job aligned with my hobbie and it does take the shine off it checking the catches of others on those really good days when you would rather be indulging in a very relaxing pastime.
Good luck to you young fella, work hard and you will fullfill all you want to achieve.

This certificate is generally
This certificate is generally considered the minimum qualification across Australia. Not sure if Challenger run one. Otherwise try to get a State Government traineeship but I'm not sure if you can be too selective what department you go into.

thanks fishy fingers and
thanks fishy fingers and GrumpyTugger i will take that onboard. Are there any other job suggestions that would have me out on the big blue and seeing Australia, but not as close to rec fishing as a fisheries officer would?
lucky tim: thanks for that info mate, do you know if its tough to get a job at the department of fisheries, or do they take alot of applicants?

applicants
They take a lot of applicants, but they weed that number down pretty seriously with psychometric tests and other assessments (sure Tim knows more) My missus used to be an officer and got her position through an Enviro degree and work experience at DEC. There are certainly things that will take you to the top of the short list, having marine qualifications (coxswains, 5's etc) and having dive tickets etc.
The guys I know who are officers still love their fishing and diving (sure it does take some tarnish off it), but its a pretty good govt career job that often pays you to see the countryside, oh, and the oceans! I guess the downside is having to deal with those who think they don't have to abide by the law.
