Sun, 2010-02-14 17:16

Didnt get out today, but got out yesterday. Tried for tailor around the washes, but no sucess. Then headed out to the 40's (weather wasnt perfect, but still fine to get out there). Jigged some some small sambos (fun on light gear) then hit the tuna schools. We all managed to get into some tuna, mostly on casting light gear which was fun. We even had a whole school pass under the boat which was awesome to watch. They stuck around for a while and when you pulled up a few fish, some mates would follow. Managed to get one on the jig, and also another on the fly which was good fun.

Wind picked up as we got to the washes, but the chop and the tide must have turned on the tailor as we were getting into them pretty easily and had a bit of fun releasing most. Ride back wasnt too fun though :s. Nice to go out and cast at just pelagics.

went out off mandurah today

Sun, 2010-02-14 18:23

went out off mandurah today first time out there found some promising ground with plenty of fish on the sounder but they didnt seem hungry. Got our bag limit of BA, a few nice red snapper  a little shark and of course your not deepsea fishing unless u catch a sweep stake. fish only really seemed to be hungry between about 10-11 then just the pickers again. Was a bit rough on the way in but managed one 4kilo sbf tuna from one cast at a school we spotted then quick sticks to the boat ramp before hammo got devorced for spending the whole day fishing. good just to get out there

bad day for us

out from mindarie , stayed fairly close 29 - 32's

lots of shows on sounder , few small pinkies

squid followed mates bait up to boat , so helped it over the side with the gaff.

nowt much else  though

then mate launched my tld combo over the side and into the drink

Surprised

luckily managed to catch the whole rig with my rod which promtly snapped when i struck at what i thought was a fish

bye bye  new 200 deep jigMoney mouth

very poor for me today

Inside the marina, not far from the boat ramp.  You might get lucky and still get them when you guys are up, but they start going quiet once the water cools, which can't be too far away as it seems the season is slowly starting to change.

Got out of Seabird today

Sun, 2010-02-14 21:10

Got out of Seabird today excellent weather, One big baldie and a reasonable Foxfish my dhuie drought continues, we have our fishing comp  up here in a couple of weeks so have to work out some stratagies. My young Seven year old boy was promised $100 if he caught a dhuie over 7kg by  my wife, I wonder whose wallet the cash was coming from if he pulled it off ?

Fishing Today

Sun, 2010-02-14 21:35

Took the kids out for some crabbing and squidding in Cockburn Sound.   Caught a feed before heading to Buchannan Bay for a swim. The kids loved watching the dolphins cruising around the Sound  Smile

Mindarie today

Sun, 2010-02-14 22:01

Saw Iceman at the servo before launch, would be interesting to hear how he went as he was heading out to the 100m mark.

I managed 2 reasonable dhuies in two drifts again between 10am and 11am as someone else mentioned. Kept the first as it was 9kgs and released the second which would have probably gone about 11kgs.

Not much else landed of note. released 5 dhuies a pinky and 2 BBs along with an assortment of sweep, SB's and skippy etc.

Had a visit by the fisheries guys whilst out at teh 40m contour, the usual safety equipment drill and check of the sky.

Was a long wait at teh ramp to get out, but apart from that a good day on the water.

Fishing yesterday

Mon, 2010-02-15 10:56

Went for a dive out the back of Five Fathom Bank in 27 metres - got 4 nice crays - saw a few good fish, including a really big dhuie. Surfaced to see a boat with 3 guys fishing, anchored within 30 metres of us.

Not very frigging happy, as they were anchored right on top of where we were swimming. I hope all they got was the wrasse that we watched them haul in. Grubs.

Not like there wasn't enough ocean out there - they were the only other boat within 3 miles!

Top dive though... :)

Dreadful day!

Mon, 2010-02-15 13:58

Headed to the usual haunt a few clicks from metro. And gave the old mans boat a run. Headed to 1 of his inside clumps, only to find it bombed with cray pots.

Managed a average sized baldie, drifting the corner of it but then decided to head out to another spot.

got to the first one in bout 35-40 Mtrs and got 1 undersized dui and 2 lil pinkies all released well.

Gave up on it after that, because the drift was horrific.

Old man managed a nice sized baldie, after a while of just drifting no mans land.

Then other deckie hooks up solid and lost it half way up.

Then one of the outboards carked it.

Good thing Dad owns a Cat and headed back in on one motor at 7kts

Had a long time to think how miserable the trip was turning out to be on the way backTongue out

But atleast we were out on the water. And the water was great
