Flying Solo at Exmouth

With a weather forecast that wasn't real hot, I decided to hit Tantabiddi anyway and chase Spanglies inside the reef. Launched and with better than expected weather I headed for the south passage and decided to run outside chasing a mackeral while is was still nice. No luck on them and with a 15kt Northerly blowing now I decided to head back into the shallows for a coral trout or 2. No luck on the corals but got 3 coronations off the one bommie, one was 70cm and the others about 50ish, all released. Happy with that so came inside and chased spanglies on lures. Landed 6 over the next few hours with 5 between 58 and 68cm released and a smaller 50cm fish kept for tea. Pretty happy with the day considering the weather and the fish burgers for tea weren't too bad either.

ps. Apologies for the self portraits. I was hoping the coronation trout one would look a bit better.

If half the fisho's in the world could take pics like that single handed there would be a plethora of magazines wanting to snap that stuff up. GREAT PIC mate  awesome stuff.

yeah the gloves were a bit

Tue, 2009-04-07 21:27

yeah the gloves were a bit pooncy but better than a spike in the hand. Only used them for holding the fish but I can't go down with a injury this early in the trip. Hope you didn't get in too much trouble when you got home, I was just getting the taste for it when I was removed by you know who.
Mako the coronations were all on a Crazy Deep in fusilier colour, the spangs on my secret but here's a hint- it's chartruse, 12cm long and a shallow diver.

Sam I got the 3 trout from the one bommie in 8m. Pretty much just trolled the back of the reef varying between 7-10m.
And Adam it's been GPS'd so we can hit it when the weather suits again. Be good to jump over and see what's around.

Yeh, I aint feeling so flash today.  But the sounders in and its shit hot, happy days.  Looking like tomorrows going to be gold, gonna have to break out the marlin lures I think, even though I think the full moon will shut it down.  Will give ya a buzz tonight.
